No need to be snarky. Yes, I have yellow pages, but I'd much rather hear from someone with experience with a specific endocrinologist.

I don;t know anyone there. I would go to the website of the largest hospital and look up the various departments. Find out which MD specialize in Type 1 diabetes - then check them out online (those services don;t cost much). Then you can go for one appt and see if you like them/ your personalities mesh - since this is, I assume, someone you will be working with long-term..

First of all, do you have a referral? Do you even NEED one? A capable internist may be all that you need but then again what do I know, I 'm just a doctor.

Endocrinologists can generally provide much more care than an internist - in terms of securing regular consultations with nutritionists and diabetes counselors.

IMHO few internists have the time to devote to a patient with diabetes in terms of regular visits, follow-up, heavy duty nutritional counseling, lifestyle changes and daily management. (I've interviewed many MDs on this topic and FPs/IMs all said they can;t give the patient 30 minutes or more of counseling - and endos have much easier access to supportive services. And they would send a family member with diabetes to an endocrinologist for in-depth counseling/management.

I'll search on childrenwithdiabetes.

I've had luck in the past from a Fodors member when I was seeking an oral surgeon for an emergency my son had at his out of state college, so I thought I'd try here again.

I've searched online and have names of endocrinologists in Boulder, but was making a query here just in case someone had firsthand info on any of them.

Thanks to everyone. My son really has to do this on his own, but I thought if I could point him in a specific direction, I would.
