Getting to Laguardia Airport: Which is easier??
Is it easier to drive to Laguardia Airport in NYC or take the Express Bus Service out of Newark Airport to Laguardia? I've driven to Newark Airport and find it easy to get in and out of but I'm not sure about Laguardia... I would like to take a flight out of Laguardia and wonder if the Express Bus out of Newark is a better idea?? Less hassle, maybe? Thanks,Debbie

Where are you leaving from? Depending on the time of day, I'd just drive to LaG, or take a car service from home. I can't imaging driving to EWR, parking, then taking a shuttle bus to LaG. Being at the whim of the shuttle bus seems like more hassle.

Your question is a bit unclear to me. LGA is much smaller than Newark-very easy to get in & out (IMO). Not sure about parking space at LGA though if you're thinking of leaving a car there. Look on their website for long term parking availability/prices. Depending on how long you're gone, it may be cheaper to take a car service. If you live near Newark & want to park there (?) & then take a shuttle bus, I agree with McSmith, it sounds like too much hassle.

This website should be helpful. My preference would be to take a cab or shuttle van.

HI,Thanks for all your responses!I'm driving from Upstate New York (Glens Falls) and looking at a map (I just dug it up) I'm sure I do not want to drive to Laguardia Airport! It looks too close to the City and that makes me nervous.Debbie

Debden, I still don't know about parking availability/cost at LGA but you really shouldn't worry about driving there. It will be all highway & the worst that could happen is slow, stop & go traffic. While it is very near the city, it's not like driving IN the city. To me, driving to Newark would be much worse & the 2 airports are really NOT near each other. Why not try going to mapquest.com & see what driving directions they give you & post back. For how long will you be away? (how many days parking will you have to pay for).

Hi Mclaurie,I did go to Map Quest and Laguardia Airport is a little over 200 miles from where I live.Looks like a 3 1/2 to 4 hour drive.Your right,it is all highways.Doesn't look too bad.
I'll be going from a Saturday to a Wednesday.I'd probably start out super early since it is a Saturday and traffic gets heavy fast on weekends.
I haven't been able to find too much on Parking fees at Laguardia but I'll keep looking. Thanks for your help....

Mclaurie,Wow,I just found the parking fees for Laguardia Airport.Long Term parking is $24 for the first 24 hours then $10 every 24 hours after that! Whew! That's $64.00 for 5 days!!That seems like alot to me...The cheapest off-site Parking I could find is $13 per day. That's not any cheaper!I thought I could save some money flying out of Laguardia but I guess I should re-think that one!

Debden: I live in Schenectady and here's some ways to get to LGA. I've taken them all.
1-Take Amtrak from Albany, then take the Express bus (Alb Airport parking $5 and up a day). Express bus $16 round trip if you pay online in advance) Amtrak about $40 each way (yuck)
2-Drive to Poughkeepsie and leave car in garage ($3.75 day, free on weekends & holidays) and take MetroNorth to Grand Central Terminal. Catch the Express bus right across the street from the station, and fare the same as above. MANY more trains to choose from than Albany, and fare will be $9.50 to $13, according to what time you're traveling
3-Are you traveling REALLY light? Take the MetroNorth as above to 125th street (same fare). When you exit the station, look to your left & across the street for the bus shelter & take the M60 bus to the airport - $1.50 (or $2) but there will be no storage room for your bags. The Express bus has under-bus compartments for your bags -- like a Greyhound bus does. My email is rb_traveler at yahoo.com if you want more info, or call me (Roberta Rd - scdy)

Ahhh, I have fond memories driving from Queens (I lived near LaG) to Saratoga (my boyfriend, now my husband lived there). Although you will hit much more congestion on the road than you are used to, there are quite a few highway options to take that will put you right at LaG. And these highways are fine. Nothing close to Manhattan traffic or congestion. It is a fairly easy drive, so do it that way. LaG is a smaller (small in NYC terms but not small like Albany Airport). I haven't lived near LaG in a few years but I remember many off-site parking lots very close to the airport - in a relatively safe area (safe to me, but maybe not to everyone else).
Now I live close to Newark Airport and fly out of there frequently. The drive there, in terms of types of highways, will be very similar to the drive to LaG. Long term parking at Newark is in the $20 per day range. Not very cheap either.
Good luck
