We'll (a couple) be flying into Denver in early October, planning to stay in town a couple of nights before driving on to Utah national parks, probably Canyonlands. If possible, would rather take public transportation to downtown and not rent a car. What are the options, including a taxi, time and money-wise?

There is Super Shuttle. You can pre book and then go to the SS desk at Ground Transportation when you get there or just turn up and they may have some spare seats as it's a shared van ride. The person at the desk will direct you outside on the same level to island 3. You should have a ticket with the van# on it so you don't get the wrong one. It's what I have always taken if I wasn't getting driven by DH.

Another option is Denver's public transportation, RTD, which has SkyRide coach service leaving right from the main terminal to the heart of downtown Denver. It departs every 30-60 minutes and costs only $11.00 one way (cash only, exact change). You would ride to the Market Street station from where most downtown hotels are either walkable or accessible from the free 16th Street Mall Shuttle bus. Taxis are, of course, the other option and cost maybe $50-60 to downtown.

I've used the SuperShuttle a few times -- it was under $25 and took approximately an hour depending on how many other riders.

Thanks for the heads up on the SkyRider, tekwriter. Am headed back to Denver next month. Normally stay at the Monaco downtown.

If over 65, the Skyride is half price.

Haven't taken the SS to downtown but to other areas. They wait and wait at the terminal to fill up. And then you can hope they'll take you downtown first. I have grown to dislike them, just so you are aware of my bent/opinion on this.

SkyRide is my preferred option. It only makes 4-5 stops I think, takes about 45 minutes or so. Much cheaper than a taxi and not much longer. The only drawback is you may have to wait awhile for the next bus, depending on when your flight arrives. I try to time my arrival so I land about 30 minutes or so before a SkyRide departs, that gives me enough time to get my bags and get to the curb.

It is usually significantly cheaper to rent a car from a downtown location, and I've never had a dropoff fee for returning to the airport.

We prefer SkyRide, also. They are nice coaches, might even have free wi-fi. Much more comfortable ride than SuperShuttle.

Last time I took SS to go home from the airport, the van was packed, the driver didn't know his way around, and took the most painful route into downtown in rush hour.

Not to mention, he drove right past our street without turning and going one block to drop me off, insisting he knew what he was doing. Nope. Not unless you enjoy sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic all the way downtown and back. Never again.

Thanks, SkyRide sounds like a great option. And since we're over 65 it gets better.
