getting around in seattle

Can we get around seattle for a few days and then head to vancover/victoria without a car? Then rent one for a British Columbia tour?

You can definately get around Seattle without a car. I assume you are taking the train or flying up to BC?

You can get around Seattle, using buses (http://transit.metrokc.gov/bus/bus.html), the trolley (http://transit.metrokc.gov/bus/water...streetcar.html), a tour bus (http://www.graylineofseattle.com/tour_detail.cfm?id=56) and/or taxis. It isn't nearly as mass-transport-friendly as other cities (boy, I just got back from Boston - what a difference!), but you can do it with a little bit of determination.

It is easy to get to/from Vancouver and Victoria without a car. I really like the passenger-only Victoria Clipper ferry (http://www.victoriaclipper.com/marke..._vessels.shtml) to Victoria. From there (just outside of town), you can take a B.C. ferry (http://www.bcferries.com/) to Vancouver. Alternatively, Amtrak can take you to Vancouver by train (http://www.amtrak.com/trains/cascades.html), and there is also the Quickshuttle bus (http://www.quickshuttle.com/), certainly the cheapest way to get there.

All true. Be careful with one-way car rentals, either within BC or (especially) internationally. Either you'll get a big drop fee, or they'll charge you a daily rate which corresponds to a big drop fee.

You can use Amtrak bus - get a ticket at the train station - I beleive the seats are guaranteed.
