Friendly fire kills 4 Canadians

I'm an American who lives near the Canadian border. I watched in anguish as they showed the bodies the the four Canadian forces young men who were killed last week. Four killed and I believe 8 were wounded when an American fighter jet accidentally dropped a bomb on these unfortunate young men who were performing a night mission. Is it me, or has there been little or no coverage about this on our U.S. stations? Another casualty on the war against terrorism but it makes one wonder how this kind of thing can happen in the age of computers, two-way radios, air traffic experts.

I really do not think that this is the place to discuss this topic.

There has been extensive media coverage for three days, where have you been, do not decide the outcome just yet. It took place in a training area, could have been someone failed to communicate. Happened in darkness, why think a gadget will always prevent those occurrences. This is a dangerous profession.

This was a very tragic event that was heavity covered by US media.
Please, let's not have another thread about coverups in the press. It's just not so!

Just don't travel to Canada with a shirt that says
"I LOVE THE USA!"

I agree with the others. This event has been covered in the media here. Everyone is aware of it. Accidents do happen in combat. U.S. troops have been killed in this war by friendly fire, as well as in other accidents such a plane crashes. Even the "smartest" weapons are not foolproof. Its tragic but going into a combat zone clearly is not without risk.

Also: NPR last week, report of survey in Canada - large majority held no enmity toward the USA for what transpired. When a poster suggests someone not wear a USA tee to Canada, the implication is of course personal danger. Not very helpful, and certainly misleading of what the actual situation as reported is said to be. Of course it was an accident - and people will not brand the US for it.

If you really want to voice sympathy you could send a note of condolence to CFB (Canadian Forces Base) in Edmonton or Nova Scotia. This is certainly not the time to stir up any negative feeling. You can't look for blame when there isn't any. It was an awful accident...sad but true.

Janett,
I sent a note of condolence to the Edmonton base.It is so hard to think of what to say, nothing will make this better.
So I said that we are lucky to have such friends as the Canadians and how heartbroken we are for this awful accident.
We were in Montreal right after September 11th.Everywhere we saw small US flags, the police and firemen flew small flags. It warmed our hearts and made us feel a little better.
It is so sad that since September 11th, so many people are still dying.
I hope that this is over soon and we can go back to living some sort of normal lives again.

Thats so kind..thanks on behalf of all canadians!
I thought of that because at the end of September my neice's Grade 2 class sent a poster/card to New York (addressed to the mayors office!) telling how they cared about what happened.
Good to know that people do still care about others.

I am a Canadian and I would just like to say to the poster who wrote don't wear "I love US" teashirts, why not? Americans are our neighbors, but more than that our best friends. When we need help or other nations need help, they are there. Don't worry. Canadians will not blame America as a whole for what happened, nor do we have any built up resentment towards Americans. May God Bless Canada, America and all of its allies to make the world safe for freedom.

I feel terrible about this tragic accident. The news reports have been all over the Washington DC news. We are so fortunate to have allies like the Canadians. I'm so sorry this happened. My sympathies are with you.
