Lobster eating in Maine

Hello,

We're traveling in June to Maine and would appreciate any suggestions for great lobster pounds/bakes in the Bar Harbor or Boothbay Area.

Also what would be the most scenic route up the coast of maine to get to BH?

Thanks in advance!!

I second the Beal's pick. Others prefer Thurston's.

Route 1 is the most scenic, but it can also be very slow driving through all the coastal towns.

Boothbay Harbor has a lobster bake that is out on an island - call Fisherman's Wharf & ask what boat trip offers this (I know the ticket place is in their parking lot, can't remember name) or go to www.boothbayharbor.com. Lobsterman's Coop or Robinson's Wharf in Boothbay offer great lobster.

And remember that bigger isn't better with lobsters. The best for taste is the "chicken" lobster between 1 and 2 lbs. I always go for about a 1.25- pounder. If it isn't enough food for you (should be), order 2, not a 4-5 pounder. The big guys have no taste.

Pssst! Hey Tim - you're not supposed to eat the beard! 8^) But I agree - they're delicious. Commercial mussel farming was pretty much started in Maine.

Serious lobster eaters get hungry between Boothbay Harbor and Bar Harbor. Fortunately, there's a lobster restaurant right on the highway in Lincolnville, beside the town beach.

Yuou can eat indoors, but I've only eaten on the picnic tables out back, beside the water.

Lobsterman's co-op . Great time and delicious lobster. Try the Trenton Lobster Pound before you cross over to Mount Desert Island. Lobster for lunch and dinner! Gotta love it. Also a mountain of Maine steamed clams were excellent.travel up Route 1. While in Boothbay, try the same day boat trip to Monhegan island. We saw whales, seals, explored the island(ate Packe lobster lunch at 165 feet above sea level on a cliff. What a view!lots of artist studios . great day trip. You'll never forget it. Search Monhegan Island on the internet. Hope this helps.
