Rave: Going to the seaside over the weekend

Rant - ixnay Frances, scat, leave, head NE, make yourself scarce!

Rave - end of H season will make a great present for under the tree. We can all look forward to this for the holidays.

Our thoughts are with all in the path, we hope you will stay safe, and hopefully this will pass with minimum damage. Lots of brave folks down FL way.

1: Been so busy this week I have now "mouse wrist". Ouch! And it's my drinkin' hand! Good thing I'm ambidext...ambedexter....ambydexter....
Good thing I can use both hands!!!

2: Hurricanes in FLA.

3: This is going to be one disgustingly dirty campaign. Time to move to Costa Rica?

:
1: On a lark, suprised Mrs Kal by booking a room in SF for this Sat night and made a ressie at a restaurant we've been wanting to try. (mini-rant: too late to arrange gtg w/ SF friends.)

2: My bride is back to work (PT) and is working out again. Look out NYC "Roadrunner's 10k thru Central Park" next May! (NYC GTG May '05?)

3: Weather is supposed to be outstanding in SF this weekend.

3: FFFs (Fine Fodor's Friends).

G'hop-
Shhhhhhhhhh...don't let that get around!! I may have to give up my Man Card!

I also heard it may be in the hi 80s/low 90s in SF!?!?!? If so, I may just ride the ferries back and forth all day! Or just sit in Shanghai Kellys in front of the fan.

You up for a GTG in Yountville in Nov?
It may be time to post it so I can start "herding cats".

Kal,
You really think it's any better in Costa Rica?

The unfortunate reality of the American Public is that while we all complain about negative campaigns and negative ads, nothing gets a better response. We've allowed ourselves to become a voting public that is incapable focusing on issues beyond the length of time a normal tv commerical runs.

Scarlett, kudos for waiting! I also was up til that time but decided to wait for this morning. Last night I could't get enough of the TV clips on the late night shows about that guy (Zell something) who was ranting at the convention and at the TV anchors. > What a hoot! \/

Rave: The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. For a "fake news show" they sure do tell it like it is.

Rant: At the moment I have no vacations to look forward to. I've used up most of my vacation time. Ugh...

Rave: My parents, who live in Fla., decided to rent a house in NY (an hour from me) for this whole month. I won't have to worry about them being hit by another hurricane.

Rave: I went to Union Square Park last night...the staging area for the anti-RNC protests. (I found all the buttons, bumper stickers, etc. I was looking for!) I felt a great sense of community, and what it means to be a NYer.

Rant: People I care about - some of whom I've met and some I haven't - are threatened by hurricanes. Please stay safe, everybody!

Rave: I spoke to somebody on the phone today that I haven't seen in 44 years. Found her strictly by chance (actually by Google) and we had a delightful conversation.
Good friends bring a lot of joy to our lives, don't they?

I can tell you why, actually - I've been working on an autobiography, just for my kids and grandkids to read. I've kept journals since I was a teenager, and lately I was reading what I wrote at 18. I had made friends with a young couple at my summer job, and we became quite close over a very short period of time. After the summer was over I knew I would never see them again, and I wrote in my diary about how sad I was to say goodbye to them. When I realized how significant this had been so many years ago (how easy it is to forget!) I thought I owed it to my 18-year-old self to see if I could find them. I found her - he was a lot older and died a number of years ago. I can't believe we've actually connected and she remembers me! I just had to share that with my Fodor pals.

Meesthare,
My daughter did the same thing not long ago. Googled her best friend from childhood and found her! Since the friend is a stylist for magazines (House Beautiful etc) she has an email address posted on a Google site. They are now writing each other and talking every week
And I remember when they used to sit and giggle for hours in my daughters room

After 33 years, my best friend from college tracked me down. He had reported himself deceased to our alumni association to avoid getting all the solicitations. To get my address he had to call them and say that there had been a mistake and he was still alive. Then they gave him my address. He's alive and well in LA, working in TV and theatre and we now email regularly and visit when I get to California. He said it was worth it to reacquaint even though he is now plagued with the solicitations once more.

Rant: Frances - praying for all of you in its path.

Rant: DD has orchestra rehearsal Monday night, so we can't go anywhere this weekend.

Rant: Actually, we have no money to go anywhere this weekend anyway...

Rave: The New Mexico State Fair has started! We'll probably go Tuesday on dh's day off. Need to check to see when the bread contest is and get baking!

Rave: Oldest dd survived her boyfriend leaving for basic training, and her college semester is going well so far.
