Freaky Friday rants and raves, Sept. 3

Rant: finally got some warm weather
Rave: No more political conventions!

LoriNY Sep 3rd, 2004 04:48 AM

Rave: The convention is over and NYC is back to normal.
Rant: That means I am back in the office after 3 days of working from home
Rave: Last day for 2 weeks, off to France tomorrow.

Au Revoir mon amis.

Statia Sep 3rd, 2004 04:49 AM

Oh wow! Is is possible I'm here first? Or, perhaps someone is posting at the same time as me. :(

Rant: Frances, Frances, Frances.

Rave: Frances missed us by a smidgen earlier in the week. Boy, do we feel blessed.

Rant: She is headed towards my many friends in Florida.

Rave: It's a holiday weekend for everyone I know in the US.

Rant: It's not a holiday weekend where I live. :(

Stay safe everyone in Frances' path! And, to all my other Fodorite friends, have a good holiday weekened!

bonniebroad Sep 3rd, 2004 04:50 AM

RAVE: 74 days on my exercise program, knee feeling better but have switched from brisk walking to water aerobics for the last week. Love them - who knew what a workout you'd get in the water!!! Will continue, and add walking back as knee improves. Weight loss: STILL 15 lbs.

RANT: Hurricanes

RAVE: Discovering Hand & Foot - what a neat card game, especially when drinking Rio Grande Punch! ;;)

Have a wonderful weekend, all!

Statia Sep 3rd, 2004 04:51 AM

Lori beat me....darn! :)

Ani Sep 3rd, 2004 04:56 AM

Whoa-I'm an early bird today!

RAVE: Autumn is coming....that means Halloween!

RANT: Frances...good luck to my family & friends in its path.

AHaugeto Sep 3rd, 2004 05:13 AM

Rant: Waiting on MRI results and bloodwork. I hate this waiting and this nervousness, and if I don't hear today it is going to be a yucky weekend.

Rant: Frances - best of luck to Floridian friends and family!

Rave: Got to see my bro this week up in Boston and had a great time hanging out w/ him.

Rant/Rave: My next-day hangover was gone by 11 AM.

Rave: Ireland in 3 weeks!

Fodorite018 Sep 3rd, 2004 05:21 AM

Rant--Frances

Rave--Made reservations for our annual girls getaway with friends for this fall.

Rant/Rave--Will miss a lot of our college football games...but will be at our childrens games instead.

Rave--DH began with a new company this week that so far he really enjoys!

Rave--Backpacking...not sure yet where we are off to this weekend, but it will be backpacking somewhere, lol!

Cassandra Sep 3rd, 2004 05:26 AM

AHaugeto -- all good thoughts and crossed fingers -- the waiting for verdicts is as nervewracking as going through the dmn tests.

Rant: Frances. Speaking of waiting for verdicts.......

Rave: A lot of people were able to get out of harms way with plenty of notice.

Rant: The most humid, rainy summer I remember since 1996, when Fran took out trees whose roots had nothing but mud to hold on to. Another hurricane could do the same thing, and even if it's just rain, we could have a replay of Floyd, which submerged 1/4 of our state.

Rave: The daily temps are dropping back toward perfect, and the gardenia bushes who spend the summer outdoors on my deck are covered with blossoms and buds. Only plant I seem not to be able to kill.

buckeyemom Sep 3rd, 2004 05:41 AM

Rave-College football starts this weekend! Go Bucks!

Rant-Frances

Rave-The great people on this board.

Rant-The jerks who have the school in Russian under seige.

Rave-Everyone who has lost weight and/ or has made a commitment to get healthy. Way to go Bonnie! DH is going on the South Beach Diet after Labor Day.

Good vibes to all in Florida and to AHaugeto. Fodor's rocks! :-)

Patrick Sep 3rd, 2004 05:44 AM

Ah, buckeyemom, the school seige in Russia is over -- not that that makes those guys any less jerks!

Rants: the people who are price-gouging selling hurricane supplies and related items in Florida. They say the fraud lines are ringing off the hooks. Like the woman who said they raised the price of plywood twice while she was standing in line to pay for it!

Rave: Looks like we'll be spared much except heavy rains in Naples, Florida.

TravelerGina Sep 3rd, 2004 05:51 AM

Rant: Frances! My thoughts are with my family in Lakeland, friends in Orlando, and all Floridians.

Rant: The conventions are over, but we still have two more months of political ads to put up with.

Rave: Had an offer on my house less than two weeks after listing it - looks like I can be all settled in my new home before the holidays.

Rave: All the caring people on Fodors who look out for each other.

Scarlett Sep 3rd, 2004 05:55 AM

I controlled myself at 12:15 am and waited for jor to post this :)

Rant:
Hurricanes. Not knowing where and if they will hit us. Not knowing how my friends will be.
Rant:
Hostage takers. The world would be such a better place without them.

Rave:
The kind hearted and lovely people on Fodors ((L))
Rave:
We are leaving for Oregon in 3 weeks.
A storm might be coming but my children and husband and I are healthy so that is something to be grateful for.
People with a Good Sense of Humor!!!

got lots of raves but I will stop now :D

Stay safe everybody ((F)) Scarlett

GoTravel Sep 3rd, 2004 05:56 AM

Rave: That the winds on Frances have slowed down and they expect some more weakening.

Rant: That Frances is so slow moving the amount of rainfall you Floridians will receive.

Rave: Lake Okeechobee is a natural drainage pump that will help with all the run off.

Ryan Sep 3rd, 2004 06:00 AM

Rave: We close on our house next Wednesday.

Rave: All those who stayed home this week because of the convention, making what could have been a nightmare commute for me, not that bad.

Rant: The sick to my stomach feeling having now seen the seedier aspects of a political convention firsthand. I thought last year's campaign finance reform fixed the problem. But, still plenty of food and drinks to be had thanks to your good friends at "insert company name, industry lobbying group" here. As someone who still believed in the more idealistic aspects of our system of government, I realize now I was naive. Everything in politics has a price and you can always find someone willing to fork over the money required. Where are you Mr. Smith?

kaudrey Sep 3rd, 2004 06:17 AM

Rave - I have a full, long weekend of plans with great friends.

Rant - not for me, as I am in DC, but my thoughts are with those in the path of Frances as well as those in the school in Chechnya. May everyone be safe.

Rave - countdown 2 weeks to my San Francisco/Arizona trip!

Karen

seetheworld Sep 3rd, 2004 06:26 AM

Rave: It's back to school and work! Busy and loving it!

Rave: The kids are settled in at college.

Rant: I miss them :(

Rave: Keep up the good work to all those on exercise and healthy eating regimens :)

Have a great weekend everyone and you Florida folks stay safe!

Jocelyn_P Sep 3rd, 2004 06:38 AM

Rant: Sweet Daughter (4 years old) slammed her finger in the car door this week. We spent all afternoon in the ER.

Rave: nothing's broken, other than her fingernail, and she was such a trooper through the whole terrible experience.

Rave: I have a new appreciation for my family's otherwise good health.

Rant: hurricanes (again!) :(

MarthaB Sep 3rd, 2004 06:38 AM

rant: Hurricane Frances. We have family near Cape Canaveral who just moved there.

rant: People who choose to take children as hostages.

rave: My son started school and got the coveted *hard* teacher.

Thinking of all of you in the hurricane's path.

tpatricco Sep 3rd, 2004 06:41 AM

Happy Friday & Long Weekend in the USA!! **==

Rant: Hurricane Frances! I want all my Fodorite friends to stay safe!

Rave: Looking forward to beautiful ((#)) long weekend here in NJ.

Rant: No vacations to count down to right now! All the money is going into house projects at the moment :-((

Rave: My backyard is starting to look really great after lots of backbreaking landscaping work this summer with more to come this fall! :)

Enjoy! ((b))
