Thanks, Scarlett. He (Tyler is his name) is doing much better now.

I appreciate your fellow-animal-lover concern!

:
Nothing hurts.
3 day weekend.
NFL Training camps open soon.
Hope to have a "Scarlett rave ditto" regarding my "relative" doing fine after her a.m Doc visit today.

:
My east coast connection took off early for the 3 day weekend so no Lottery picks for The Kals! Guess we're just lucky at love!

Rant: I'm on the friggin' South Beach Diet!

Rave: I've lost ten pounds in 11 days on the friggin' South Beach Diet!

Rave: Office closes at 2 PM today!

Rave: I get Monday off too!

Rave: Sun's already coming out on the coast. June Gloom is taking a break this weekend!

Rant: Sister's still in pain from recent lung surgery, and her hair's thinning from chemo.

Rave: This time they got it all, and initial pathology results are good, so MAYBE she's in the clear again. For good this time-- who knows?

Rave: She doesn't mind losing her hair ("Like I could give two sh*ts" was her comment), and is willing to shave it (like I do) and wear hats. I promised her a Von Dutch cap...!

Rant: Mom drove from PA to Lafayette (by herself) to be with my aunt whose husband just died (a sweet, gentle man, but also a hopeless alcoholic and chain-smoker). I appreciate Mom wanting to help out her sister-in-law (they're really close), but driving that far at 70....

Rave: Mom's sharp as a tack and in relatively good health, so....

Rant: I can't drink at all in the first phase of this friggin' diet.

Rave: My liver feels incredibly rested.

Everyone have a great Fourth!!

rjw: Sorry about your sister, and the no drinking.
RAVE: Long weekend! BBQ on the fourth!
My beautiful baby girl laughed for me last night...a full on gutteral laugh!

RANT: Having a hell of a time taking off these last 3 pounds. Maybe I should stop drinking? NOT.

Ani: Thanks for the kind words. But you don't have to feel sorry for us. From where my sis was earlier this year to now, we're a million times better (her spirits are good and we're all optimistic-- and her doctors are too)! And I can live without liquor. Right now.

And glad you're enjoying the new baby. And she's enjoying you...!

rjw that is WONDERFUL news about your sis!

In a show of solidarity you should buzz the ole updo.

Have you read the South Beach Diet book? If anything it turns you into a semi pro nutritionist.

Rave: Saw Eric Clapton the other night, he is truly a master
Rave: 3 day weekend yahoo!

rj...I'm so glad to hear your sis' surgery is behind her and she's on the road to recovery and good health. Thanks for letting us know...I think about you two (it's wonderful that you are so close, not always the case with adult brothers and sisters.)

Rant: I've been eying that South Beach Diet too! Hurt my hamstring so no running for a month and now I'm paying the piper. Started back "running" sloooowly this week in gawd awful humidity, but darn, those few pounds are NOT budging. I've read half the book...but not tried it yet..easing my way into this! :lol. Mexican food last night, but at least I knew enough to feel guilty about it!

Rant: I too am thinking of shaving my head after mistakenly feeling I could give my hairdresser free rein. What was I thinking!

Rave: laughing babies...that's nice Ani...just wait, it gets better and better! Scarlett's healthy family and here's hoping Kal's gets good news as well. Now that you've gone this far Kal...you're going to have to update us, promise?!

Rave: That anyone would want a Devil Rays hat!! bennie...I can get you one but it'll cost you...you must also take Vince Namoli!

Go: Thanks to you too! And my 'do was "don't-ing" for so many years before I started shaving my head (Thanksgiving 2002)-- ahh, freedom! So I'm already a chrome-dome. Luckily, our family is blessed with exquisitely-shaped heads....

And yeah, I've read the Book. And the Cookbook. It all strikes me as boiling down to portion control (and ridding the body of over-processed sugars-- like the high-fructose corn syrup that's turning a generation into Type 2 diabetics), but what the heck, it's working for now. I've got a ways to go, unfortunately, but the longest journey always starts with one step, right?

Kinda slick how I made this almost travel-related there, huh?

RANT - Houston Astro fan and can't believe our pitcher pitches a fast ball down the middle to none other than Sammy Sosa! In overtime, game tied up, CUBS are home team and last bat! UGHHHH! I'm blonde and smarter than that!

RAVE: Glad I'm an American, PRAY for our military men and women! They're true heros!

RANT: Houston area has had TOO MUCH RAIN lately! And, it's so hot and humid outside, I hate it! Envious of those going backpacking in the mountains! I love the mountains, I know living in wrong place!

emd, you have me pegged! I would spend 18 grand on that top of the line John Deere riding mower. Accually one of the most relaxing things I have done to get my job off my mind is to water my shrubs.

Here is my Real rant. My brother keeps on ruining everything from Mothers Day to Christmas. He treats our parents like crap every time he is around them. He is cranky, irritable, arguementative, negative, impatient, and doesn't give a damn. He is an alcoholic and I don't know if our parents know it. They keep on asking what is wrong with him and I tell them "I don't know". This is the best rant I have ever had. Does anyone else have a sibling like this?

rjw, glad things are looking up following surgery. My wife had surgery for ovarian cancer in 1973. Odds were 40 percent in her favor. We celebrated our 44th anniversary in June.

jor: Have you thought about telling your parents the truth about your brother's alcholism. Could be liberating, and then they could start to understand, instead of everyone being in the dark. And maybe you all could help him- who knows, sometimes family interventions can help w/a counselor. Maybe not, but at least they would know and could start dealing w/the truth, maybe in a more healthy way. There's Alanon- it helps w/the family anger and resentment.
Been there...

Wow, a lot of health concerns here. Rant = the design flaws in our bodies that means the clock will run down, one way or another, no matter what we do. Rave = the strength of spirit that keeps people alive despite invasion of evil diseases and dire predictions from science.

Dear jor: emd made the assumption that your brother's lousy behavior and his alcoholism are related -- not a bad assumption although always a good debate about whether alcohol by itself explains bad actions and bad outlook -- a chicken-egg riddle whose answer has to do with both being part of the system. I don't have a sibling like that but have had close friends and relations. It's a crappy, holiday-destroying game.

You don't have to play.

The fact that your parents keep asking what's wrong with him suggests they are clueless or looking for someone else to confront the truth for them instead of having to do it themselves.

Decide if there's anything that makes it worth the misery to you to be there. Chances are there isn't, so tell brother AND parents you've had it and you won't "go there" anymore.

You'll RAVE about how much lighter your life is around holidays (and guilt about your choice is absolutely prohibited -- your life is already well underway and it's short).

...and your parent will be doubly miserable because now they've lost the good too. Geez!
