What on earth jorr???!!! My God. I wasn't putting you down and I wasn't making fun of you, not in the least. Not even a little. I can't even begin to conceive of how you drew that conclusion? It was supposed to be something positive actually, 'cause I think new doors can be very cool and exciting. I was walking the other night and saw a house with a new beveled leaded glass door and thought "how cool...I wonder if I could do something like that?" I'm stunned and hurt by your comments. That is NOT the kind of person I am, believe me! You wanted to hurt somebody, well bubba, you sure did. Congrats.

I didn't post anything this week because I don't really have any rants or raves (other than Katrina and her aftermath).
I think that very many of us are tightly wound in light of the events of the last week or so, and I think perhaps that might be a reason why Jorr took OO's comments in a way other than they were meant (not to mention why so many threads have gone awry and been deleted or halted).
Jorr, it sounds like you've been thru a lot lately and it sounds like you have plenty on your plate. I'm honestly very sorry to hear about your recent troubles and wish you the best. I really hope things get better soon. (Big Hug)
However, I have to add that knowing OO like I do, I am certain that she didn't mean her light hearted comments the way you might think she did. She is just not the type of person to make a mockery of someone else for any reason whatsoever.
Now that I'm here, I may as well say have a great weekend Jorr, and all my other Fodorite friends.

This is like a bad dream! Jorr, I don't know how to convince you that you took this entirely the wrong way--just the opposite of what was intended. I really DID want to hear more. You are and were 100% mistaken.
Now...I hope this makes you proud and happy, but my DH will be home within a half hour and I'm hoping to heavens my red eyes don't give me away, 'cause I sure don't want to have to go over this with him! You went beyond being unkind--I don't think I've ever seen you like this!

Rave: Free speech. People who will speak out, instead of just following the group. John F. Kennedy said: "Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth."
Rant: Censorship. I've noticed a lot of references to censorship on this board. It makes me sad. It seems that if what you say might make someone uncomfortable you're not supposed to say it. I recall that they were going to burn Galileo at the stake when he uncomfortably explained the earth revolved around the sun.

I don't usually reply to FFRR but felt I would tonight.
I was about to post when I read yours Statia, you are such a sweetheart and I echo what you said.
Very well said indeed.
I too wanted to jump on and say exactly that but you beat me to it.
Again, what Statia said!
Its been a rough week for all, in many ways.
May God bless us all.

Jorr, I am very sorry to hear you are ill and you have been through such a difficult time lately. I have had a bad year too and I find myself on edge all too often these days. But please, jorr, I beg of you to believe me when I tell you that OO is a lovely lady who would never hurt anyone. I know this from having met OO personally, and I can assure you that she meant no harm, really.

Rave: Weather has been a little cooler here with no rain so I've made a start on stripping and re-shingling the final side of the house!
Rave: the paint is in such dreadful condition - this shouldn't take too long.
Rave: after owning this house for 3.5yrs we're going to spend tomorrow fitting the final window - Yeah, 20 down, 1 to go
Rave: This thread and all it's best wishes and support, even though jorr seems to be having a bad day.
No Rants at all! Which make's me one lucky lady!

OO, I have been thinking for hours about my reation to your post. I am now convinced that I did take your post the wrong way on the advise of fellow posters, your posts, and also because I have been stressed out because of verbal abuse I have been taking from my alcoholic brother.
Please accept my apology at this late hour and post so I know you read this post.
I'm sorry,
Jorr

OO, I've been gone a lot this summer and missed many, many threads but I gather from your post you no longer live in Tampa. If that's the case, it's the Tampa Bay Area's loss--you always contributed so much helpful, accurate information; never with any malice.

Jorr, I just wanted to let you know that I am sorry for the problems with your brother. I can only imagine what you're going through. I watched a very close friend of mine destroy her life with drugs and I cannot even imagine what that would do to one's family. So sorry to hear about that.

Omigod, jorr, I know that OO would never ever say anything hurtful to you or just about anyone. She is the most kind and big hearted person I know. This must be very hurtful to her.
I am so sorry you live with this fear and for the grief of having a brother dealing with alchoholism.
You cannot let it taint your own life though or let it cause you to treat others unkindly.
I was happy that you put in a door too, it is quite a big job and you have such a great feeling of accomplishment when you complete a job like that on a house. I know OO was only cheering you on.
I will send this thread to her because I know she is not reading it anymore.
Take care, be happy, we are all FodorFriends ..Scarlett

Hello jorr, I have felt so bad about the misunderstanding between you and OO. I was so glad to see Scarlett's message to you.
My daughter said to me today (I posted this same comment on another thread but don't know which one) that so many people she knows are tense, are under stress, are taking things the wrong way and she feels it is because of the trauma of Katerina plus the anniversary of Sept. 11th.
I think she is correct, everyones nerves are a bit shot, our country is sort of rattled so to speak.
jorr, I too am so very sorry for all you have gone through. And then having to deal with an alcoholic brother would be the finishing touch.
Btw, I am going to call my insurance company to see if I really do have to hire a licensed and insured painter. I know in CA that if you hire anyone to do a job that cost more then $500.00 they under CA state law have to be licensed and insured so I think my insurance co (USAA) will insist on this also. I don't want a painter falling off of a two story ladder and then getting sued and not having insurance. No, that would not be good!
I hope your pup is good and doesn't scratch up your new door. It sounds like your house is really beautiful. A lot of work I know but I hope it brings you a lot of joy.
Again, I am sorry for all the sorrows and scares and misery you have been through jorr. My wishes that the future brings you joy, good health and peace.

Well said Scarlett!
A nice apology jorr, I'm sure that OO will accept it gracefully. She really does sound like a nice person.
Today is another day! Let's all move on.
Rave: 3 frogs in my pond, Well, I say pond but it's a plastic tub 2ft across and 3 ft deep.
I'm such a softie that we have a heater for it that we start to use when it gets icy, here in MA the ground can freeze up to 4ft in winter and I'd hate to think of those cute amphibians freezing.

I asked on another thread why so many of us are so touchy right now. Seems there's a lot of that going around, along with a lot of jumping to the wrong conclusions. I believe it was LoveItaly who mentioned the current events around us have perhaps made us all a bit that way.
I'm glad we all now realize that we just had another example of something being taken totally the wrong way. And isn't it good we can move on past that?
