Rave: Even though I know it's not funny, I laughed about Jorr's dog.
Rant: The United strike threat hanging out there threatening everyone's travel plans. And I thought booking United over USAir would mean LESS travel worries. Sigh.

Rant: Four weeks ago, our 11 1/2 year old beagle Lena had to be put down. We have had her and her sister (Emma) since they were 8 weeks old. It was a very difficult time for our family. Early this week we decided that it was time to bring home a new friend for us and Emma.
Rave: we have chosen a 1 - 2 year old black skinny dog with long skinny legs from the pound and will bring her home on Monday. My two sons 9 & 5 are beside themselves with excitement and I am too! We are in the process of picking a name and have decided to use a process similar to the selection of the Pope!

Rant/Rave: My fiesty Jack Russell had surgery on his eye yesterday. He's doing well and trying to figure out who the heck socked him while he was sleeping.
But, he's doing very well otherwise.
Rave: Glad to be home for awhile after too much non-pleaure traveling lately.
Rave: Good results on medical tests, not only for myself but for some other Fodorites, as well.
Rave: Planning DH's teen daughter's trip down to the island for this summer. She's really looking forward to it, and so are we.
Rave: Caring friends met thru the internet, either on Fodors or thru other sources.
Rave: seetheworld's DH's 50th. Congrats!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Agreeing with a Rant :
mrwunrfl, I do agree !
If one is "qualified " to fly an airplane, for heavens sake! one should at least be able to know where one is going!
How much money was lost over that?
How much does it cost to scramble fighter jets?
The lives and business that was disrupted over two knuckleheads who had a pilots license...Sheesh!
Thank you for the Rant

TGIF!
Rant: My E-mail server crashed last week, finally got partially functional by Wednesday. They're telling us we probably won't be getting our contact lists restored for a couple weeks!
Rave: DH got FREE Pergo floor for our Foyer. Now we just gotta find time to install it!
Rave: Gordon Kitty is feeling & behaving better than last week. What a nightmare sick pets can be! He is back to antagonizing our older cat. I saw him tackle & drop the other cat flat (outweighs him by at least 5 lbs.)the other day! So funny!
Rave: Going to Volvo Club Covered Bridge Tour in PA on Sunday. Pray for
!
Otto: Check out this pic. http://www.pbase.com/tpatricco/image/34127286 What is it about the sink?
cd: LL sounds like it's coming along great!
RAVE: FODOR'S NJ/NY GTG NEXT SATURDAY! Are you coming?
Happy Weekend Everyone! Trish

Rave/Rant: My commute via NJ Transit only moderately disrupted by the Amtrak bridge fire last night. Keeping my options open for a Rant after the evening commute.
Rant: That it seems increasingly likely that the US pension insurance vehicle,. the PBGC, will require a government bailout in the next few years. The proposed fix may merely exacerbate the problem and imncrease the motivation for companies to eliminate their plans.
I guess we're finally getting the bill for years of cheap oil and low airfares.
Rave: The book "The Three Martini Playdate."
Rave: The sports and recreation program in my new hometown.
Rant: The level of pessimism in the financial markets driven by a wide-spread belief that a blow-up is inevitable with one or more firms that manage money.
Ronkala,
My father also served in the Navy during the Korean War. He's gone to several reunions in recent years and really enjoys them. He belonged to a Korean War veterans group but felt guilty about receiving accolades when the closest he came to getting wounded was a bad sunburn on a Caribbean tour in '51.

Rave: It's Friday, the 13th, and we are having a magnificent Spring in Raleigh. The Triangle is gorgeous right now, including my yard full of azaleas, rhododendrons, roses, money plants ... and I have pots of magenta geraniums, others of purple, yellow, white pansies, and huge ferns hanging on my "Charleston-style" front porch... It's what I love about the South...
Rave: Weight still down, mightily trying to lose that 43rd pound...... Exercising almost every day now, hoping to have close to 50 off by my birthday June 21st!
Rant: Selfish siblings are the pits, Travelinwifey! I agree...
Rant: The D.C. flight incident. MrWunrfl & Scarlett, I couldn't agree more! When Runaway Brides and Stupid Pilots cost the taxpayers a fortune, it's gotta be some kind of crime!>
Rave: Happy 50th Birthday to seetheworld's DH!
Have a wonderful celebration! So glad you are feeling better, stw!!!
Rave: Bamakelly's work in the fight against ovarian cancer. bama, I lost my sweet sister to the disease seven years ago... I still miss her so!
Rave: Some North Carolina/Triangle schools kicking butt in the rankings of the top schools in the country. See this link: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7723397/site/newsweek/
Rave: All you great buddies here in Fodorville. I really look forward to "seeing" you on Fridays! OO, how's the battle with the dear deer going? GoTravel, you are one kind person to feed possums!
Have a wonderful weekend, all!

I'm in agreement Ms Scarlett. What ever happened to responsibility, if not our own, then enforced?
Here are two recent incidents of "honest mistakes" where drivers were NOT charged here. #1 16 wheeler comes over crest of major limited access highway in rush hour to find traffic ahead of him at a near standstill. In an attempt to stop he jackknifes, rearends one car and skids across an extremely (20-30 yds) wide grassy median into oncoming traffic, taking another car across with him in the jackknife. 3 people die. He was not charged. #2 Cattle truck going too fast fails to make curve on interstate, tipping over, spilling cattle onto highway. Cattle die but no one else, interstate closed during rush hour. No one charged. Whatever happened to "failure to maintain control of ones vehicle"???? How crazy is that, and what does that breed? OK...that's it for rants.
Rave: It's a gorgeous day. Singing birds woke me early this AM as we slept with our windows open.
Rave: Lovely neighbor came to call last night bringing yummy pumpkin-chocolate chip mini muffins to welcome us to the neighborhood, then apologized for not being over earlier but she just had a baby...3 weeks ago!!! And they have two toddlers at home to boot!!!
Rave: Truly terrific people in this neck of the woods.

Rave: Chicago, my kind of town. And all the people who work there. And especially the looks on their faces (determination), moving faster than the sleety rain and 40mph winds in May, yet still pleasant and open to a question within the moving mass. And though they may look and dress quite differently from then- they are still basically quite the same, the unselfish heart and muscle of America, as they were 50 yrs ago.
Rave: That I can still keep up with them, if only for a day or two.
Rave: All the gardens are in and the 5 kinds of peppers look like they all made it through the storms.
Rave: Michigan here I come tonight.
Rave: My SO finally has listened to reason and gone to a doctor for his one month old bronchitis. (He's a Korean vet, as well. Was a cook there for almost 2 years. His kitchen had dirt floors.)
RAVE: 26-9 White Sox and 35 games straight of always having the lead in the game.
Rave: I have three rows of peas, and I won't have to pick jorr's. (He has to have machinery, because I can hardly do what I have.)
Rave: Wicked What FUN!
Rave: Grown up kids who finally understand that "Mother's Day" is a day to give time and something Mom needs or wants and not what they need or want. And this is not about presents either.
Rave: All the good people on Fodors who care about other people.
Have a good weekend and travel in safety!

Rave: my 'baby' brother is graduating from college tomorrow.

Rave: Hawaii in less than two weeks!
Rant: Daughter is cutting teeth again so we've been dealing with high fevers, whining, and little sleep.
Rave: She seems better today.
Rant: Husband kind of forgot Mother's Day. Of course, I forgot about Father's Day last year (we're pretty new parents). My husband handled my forgetting about Father's Day much more gracefully than I handled his forgetting about Mother's Day.
Rave: Beautiful weather this weekend!
