Welcome back Melissa! I can't wait for your trip report! And I just found out you live on the same floor as my good friends!

Rant: Trying to schedule an East coast trip to look at schools for my daughter. She wants to go now... says missing class is easier early in the semester, doesn't want to "waste" spring break on a college tour, etc.

I would rather wait to hear from schools...no sense in visiting colleges that don't accept her, and it may cut down the need to visit 4 cities, it will be warmer in the spring, etc. I suspect she really wants to go shopping in NYC or Boston for her Prom dress....

RAVE: going to high tea at the Kahala Mandarin with a best friend tomorrow. We never seem to have time together these days.

Good Morning...

Bright and cold morning here in Central New Jersey. The sun is just coming up in the east.

Rave: We are all healthy.

Rant: Have to buy a new car for my daughter. Hers permanently died and she needs one for work when she graduates from college this spring. It's DH and my last big "responsibility" before she's on her own. (And when I say buy a car, I mean used, cheap, and hopefully, not too ugly).

Rave: Emails about the upcoming NY/NJ GTG. It promises to be great fun.

Rant/Rave: DH and I are going to Lehigh University to watch DD run in her last Patriot League Indoor Championship Meet. Go Bucknell!

Rant: Agree on Bugs Bunny. And we wonder why children are hyper and violent.

Rave: Jose Canseco. Although he is trash, this could be thebest thing for baseball. They knew all about this drug abuse and ignored it. Not a good choice when lives are at stake to promote a few "records".

Rant: CBGB's may have to close due to a rent increase from $20k to $40k per month.

Hey, we always need another $tarbucks or GAP.

Rave: Pitchers and Catchers arrived for spring training this week.

Rant: Liverpool mailed it in against Birmingham last weekend.

"no sense in visiting colleges that don't accept her, "

Many kids who visit colleges before applying are surprised to find that they absolutely hate schools that looked good on paper. What a disaster it would be if she applied and was accepted to schools that turned out to not be a good fit.

For instance, my daughter knew that she wanted an urban location and when we visited schools she was surprised to find that she really wanted a place with a definite campus, which many urban schools don't have. At one school that she expected to love, the whole attitude of the school administration and student body was so awful, we left before the tour was over!

Jor, oh no! What happened to Bugs Bunny? Did he turn orange ;-) "why eye outta..."

Rave: Beautiful 80 degree weather this week--it was great getting my hands back in the garden

Rave: A cold front pushed through yesterday bringing with it one of the last glimpses of winter we'll see this season

Rant: The effects of stress on the skin!

Congrats on the new job, Melissa! And, congrats to Bonnie on her 37th pound! You go, girl.

Bad news about CBGB's, Allan. Say it isn't so!

Rave: Wonderful candlelight dinner with my valentine and he didn't get called to work in the middle of it.

Rave: I think we have a set closing date on my mother's house....finally. [-o< It will be bittersweet to lock up my childhood home for the last time though.

Rant: I will have to go to Houston next week to help with the move and I don't really have time to be away right now.

Rant: Flights are full and it's going to take me at least 19 hours to get there.

Rave: I'll get to spend some quality time with my family while I'm there. A huge plus since we nearly lost my mother a year ago on Valentine's Day.

Rave: My DH has been home every evening this week. Wow, what a switch! I'm not used to having a dinner companion night after night.

Rave: Island showers, which we can always use. Keeps everything nice and green!

Rant: Entirely too much to get done this weekend, since I'm going to unexpectedly be gone for a week.

Rave: This friendly Fodors community...whether we all agree on the new colors or not.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Rave: Feb. 5-11 trip to Tucson was great; lots to see and do around there. Finally feeling caught up today.

Rant: temp was 1 degree this morning.

Rave: oldest brother's birthday yesterday, long-time pal has birthday today.

Rave: have Monday as a paid holiday -- Presidents' Day.

Neiter rant-nor-rave: it was two years ago today that we lost my dad to cancer. Still hurts so deeply. Hard part for me is that at 75 he still did everything he always had -- never retired, still looked the same, weighed the same, worked the same. He just wanted to keep going so badly. Will always be glad, though, that there was no prolonged suffering; he was only really bad for less than a week.

Potential rant: what's this Bugs Bunny news?? How dare they mess with a classic!

Rave - I'm leaving for Honduras on Monday - sun, sand, nature, what more can I ask for?

Rant - I'll be away from my daughter for a week - my first time leaving her for longer than a night.

Rave - Getting my income taxes done today, the earliest I've ever gotten my stuff together.

Rant - The inept county govt in Erie County, NY has a budget deficit of $108 million and is therefore closing all county parks for the rest of the year. Our taxes are 42% higher than the national average and we can't even go to our public parks?!

Good morning, all!

Rave: Only 28 more days on the job after today (but who's counting?)

Rant: Really gonna miss my work family!

Rave: Going to Ferris State University tomorrow to watch my 15 year old grandson's high school hockey game. The season is almost over and I'm going to miss watching him play (as well as the other three grandkids who play hockey).

Rant: Ditto on the "stupid" Bugs Bunny makeover. Ugg!

Rave: The retirement reception that boss and board of directors are planning for me at the Country Club.

Rant: I have so much to do to get my office ready for my replacement and so little time.

Rave: Trips to Montreal/Quebec City and New Orleans getting closer.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Rave: The DS, DH and I are heading into the city to see The Gates! Then going to the Botanical Gardens and making a quick stop on Arthur Avenue for some fresh pasta to prepare for dinner.

Rave: The guys are going skiing tomorrow and that leaves me to get some work done at home.

Rave: The youngest DS is excited that his big brother will visit him at his college campus tonight for a basketball game.

Rant: Planning our family vacation...having a horrible time figuring out where to go because of a very tight and limited time frame. Squeezing in 6 days between son's graduation and the start of my summer classes stinks!! It's hard to have big ideas with so little time...it's time to put plan "C" into effect

Rant - Its that dead time of winter. The cold and the snow are tiring. The potholes are horrible. The Patriots are done, the Red Sox just getting started. Need a trip to somewhere...

Rant - Been going to the gym for 2 months now and still can't walk up the 2 flights of stairs at work without huffing and puffing (though its a lot less than before). I'm doing 30 minutes of cardio and a full circuit of Nautilus 3 times a week. Would like to see some more positive results soon.

Rave: Celebrated 18 years of marriage and DD's 9th birthday this past Tuesday.
