Freaky Friday Rants and Raves 10-28

Rant: So many leaves. Too much lawn.

Rave: High winds after noon which will blow them into the woods.

Rant: People who can't figure out when the party is over.

RAVE: We're in our new home (finally!) and we LOVE it! Our neighborhood is awesome and our son is going to have a blast here on Halloween.

RANT: Went shopping today, spent way. too. much. money.

RAVE: DH did not even flinch when I told him how much. (whew!)

RAVE: Fodors! Glad to be back!

Happy Friday, everyone!

Hi jorr, I think we need more of an explaination of your second rave!

Same rant as your first one - but then again I love all of our trees and the privacy it affords us - that'll be a partial rave then

This is neither a rant or a rave but I'd like to share this with fodorites. Our neighbors opposite have a gardener - whenever he is gardening he never, never, never wears a t-shirt, sweatshirt or any other type of clothing that covers his upper body, I'm sure he's a nice guy but his body needs a bit of work. We call him 'Half-Naked-Gardener'.

Today DH was wearing shorts (while it's chilly outside the house is still warm) and was going to the Post Office and was wondering whether to change his shorts or not. I replied - "Well, Half-Naked-Gardener is out there in his shorts, I'm sure you'll be fine!!

DH was back in the house in less than a minute, although he did say he saw 2 people in the PO wearing shorts

Rave - the wind stopped and we didn't lose any trees.

Rave - have booked Plimoth Plantation for Thanksgiving, what better place could we visit? After all the Pilgrims were Brits and it's one of the few places here in MA where we get to be the 'goodies'

Rant - something scared the h*ll out of one of my kitties and he's refusing to leave the house unless I'm outside. I don't know what it was but he has a few scratches and slight paranoia

Bamakelly - glad everything is going well, Good luck - What is your son going to wear for Halloween?

Hi jorr!
Yay, bamakelly is back!! Congratulations on your new home..

Rave:
An afternoon spent in the Portland Japanese Gardens.
So serene, I actually felt quite Zenful.

Rave:
Fodorfriends, friends safe after hurricanes and illness and loss. We have a lot to be thankful for..

No real rants, some minor irritations, but nothing requiring a rant.

alya, I will have to work on the six pack. Didn't know you had the telescope out this late in the season. I thought you were a bird watcher.

hey, jorr,

Multi-talented, what can I say

We have a neighbor who does ‘hot-yoga’ in his porch in winter when the wood stove is on – Who said the ‘burbs are boring?

Unfortunately he lives too far away and the binoculars don’t work round corners. Glad/sad? Not sure.

Anyone want to get truly terrified for Halloween?

IMPORTANT - MUST READ BEFORE WATCHING THE VIDEO

Ghostly advertisement

Strange but interesting. This is a car advertisement from Great
Britain. When they finished filming the ad, the film
editor noticed something moving along the side of the
car, like a ghostly white mist. They found out that a
person had been killed a year earlier in that
exact same spot. The ad was never put on
TV because of the unexplained ghostly
phenomenon. Watch the front end of the car as
it clears the trees in the middle of the screen and
you'll see the white mist crossing in front of
car then following it along
the road....Spooky! Is it a ghost, or is
it simply mist?
You decide.
If you listen to the ad you'll
even hear the cameraman whispering the
background about it near the end of the commercial. A little
creepy but pretty amazing.

Early post allows me to sleep in!(Think that means I've been on Fodr's way too long).

Rave: vacation rapture continues still.

Rantit a fire in new office fireplace tonight and set off smoke alarms..jeez nothing worse than 5 "overly concerned" therapists complaining about the smoke and then saying "we're only concerned about YOU".(this is why I like nurses much better. They'd say What the hell are you lighting a fire for??)

Rave: Tiny neighbor greets me from afar this am saying "Thank you for the sparkly tatoo"..It came with her Halloween card from our house to hers.

Rave: Kal just because

Rave: Started back at weight lifting this week and resume Pilates next week. Now it's not so much about looking cute as it is about being able to get off the john in 10 years(perhaps this is a rant).

Rant: 2000 soldiers dead

Good wishes to all.

Rave:
That "You know you've been on Fodors too long" thread from the other day. That was really funny (Laughed at your comment about the trip Bennie).

Rant: It's the end of 1st quarter and I have 85 exams to correct by Monday (those essay questions seemed like such a good idea at the time...). Guess I know what I'm doing this weekend.

Rant: My pathological procrastination gets me into these situations ALL THE TIME.

Rave: When I get myself out of these tight spots it feels so darn good.

Rant: No upcoming travel plans (still paying off Hawaii trip!) unless you count Thanksgiving in NJ with the MIL.

Rave: It's Friday!

Rave: It's going to warm up a little this weekend which will hopefully melt the 12 inches of snow we received 3 nights ago.
Rant: We received 12 inches of snow 3 nights ago

Rave/Rant: Was able to have a pretty good time in N Conway, NH last weekend despite worrying about my mother. She was hospitalized Thurs. night so was unable to attend with us. I wanted to stay here with her but she told us to go and have a good time. So, we did but I was worried about her the whole time. All that, on top of the drama that occurs when you get a group of women together. Needless to say, I was glad to be home.
Rave: Scenery and food were pretty good.

Hope everyone has a Happy Halloween!

Good morning from Central New Jersey. A crisp and cool day in the east. The leaves are turning colors and it's NOT raining.

Rave: DH and I bought a pellet stove insert yesterday.

Rant: Won't be installed untill January.

Rave: All family members healthy and no huge rants this week.

Have a safe and fun weekend.

Happy Anniversary, travelinwifey!!

Ethel, wishing your mom a speedy recovery.

Rave: Dan and Bamakelly are back. Whew, so glad you made it through Katrina!!

Rant: My car received a death sentence this week!! I knew it had some problems, but I didn't think it was that bad. Long story short, it will cost a lot more to fix the car than what it's worth, so I've been looking at new cars. Buying a new car is supposed to be a happy event, but times are tough lately so I am looking for something very VERY economical.

Rave: A tiny little part of me is excited about driving a new car.

Rant: I had a job interview yesterday with a couple of ice sculptures. I call them ice sculptures because they had all of the charm and personality of statues, and all of the warmth of ice sculptures. It was creepy. I think my chances of getting an offer from that place are about as good as winning the lottery, but if it does happen, I'm definitely not interested.

Rave: Last night we were looking for a place to eat dinner. We wandered into a new restaurant we've never been to. They told us at the door that they are not opening until next week, but they were having "training night" where they are giving out free meals so the waiters and cooks can practice, but it's by invitation only. However, they had some seating available, so we were invited in!! We got a free meal, except for the tip, and all we had to do was fill out a comment card to give feedback. What a deal, it was like finding money on the ground!!

Rave: In terms of funny threads, this is the best week we've had in a long time. I'm not sure which thread this week is funnier. It's a tie between cockroaches in the luggage and being a Fodorite too long. Thanks for all of the good laughs.

Rave: About a year and a half ago I came to this board only to post a question about Swiss trains. Little did I know that this is not a message board, it's a community. I cannot believe how many friends I've made here, and how much I enjoy our daily visits. Thank you all, you're the best.

Hugs, happy weekend and Happy Halloween to all.

Rave: I'm going on a diet after this marathon is over to lose my butt!

Rave: Start training for the Miami Half Marathon January 29th!

Rave: Leave for New York!

RAve: A week in New York with my inlaws and my husband!

p_m,
I don't have your email address anymore. I would like to discuss the job hunt further. If you would like to, email me at [email protected].

RANT: San Diego trip postponed by SO. And I had soooo many good suggestions from Fodorites. I have saved it for later use. (Hopefully not too much later!)

RAVE: Cool weather in Houston. It's like a dream. Great golfing and festival weather.

RAVE: American Heart Association Heart Walk in one week. Can't wait. A mini-rant is that I feel bad seeking donations when so many people have donated everything they could to hurricane victims. Oh well! Every little bit counts!

Welcome back, bamakelly! And congratulations on the new home!

Ethel, is your mother still in the hospital? Hope she's feeling better very soon.

Travelinwifey, for some reason that hit me much harder than OO's. I'm still shaking! And happy anniversary!

I really enjoyed that "you've been on Fodor's too long" thread too.

Good luck with the run, GoTravel!

Hope your next job interview is much better, P_M!

RANT: Had a very odd night's sleep as I had to get my son up at 4:00 and then had trouble going back to sleep. Of course until just before it was time to get up again! I had to get on the computer in order to pay a bill. So I couldn't resist checking in on FF R&R! But I'm way too groggy to come up with any real rants or raves!

Have a great weekend, everyone! And Happy Halloween!
