Fort Lauderdale during the summer months

We are planning a trip to Fort Lauderdale beach this summer. I'm a little concerned about the heat that time of the year. Does it get extremely hot? Also, has anyone stayed in the Marriott Beach Place Towers? What is it like? Any input would be appreciated.

Beth:

I went last May to Ft. Lauderdale, actually Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL (LBTS) (5 miles north of Ft. L). It was 90+ and over mid-May. This may have been unusually hot. However, the humidity wasn't too bad yet, it was just really hot. Why don't you go in May? I'd also suggest LBTS. It would be cooler due to less high rises and businesses of Ft. L. It also has a more small beachtown feel that is nice. Another great month to go to LBTS and Ft. L. is beginning of November. This month has the least amount of rain of the whole year with about 2" tops. In Nov it's between 80-85 with low humidity. Just FYI.

Ha! And I thought I was alone!

I am planning a July trip to Palm Beach Shores. I will be staying right on the Atlantic with it's cool breezes. Yes, I expect it to be hot and maybe a bit humid. But I would also expect that pretty much up and down the Atlantic coast. Why not take advantage of a Florida beach town during "off-season?" I love the area, I have chosen it as there is plenty to do that holds my interests.

Happy Trails,
Paul

I lived in Ft Laud many years. Summers are HOT ! You won't even be able to walk on the beach sand without burning your feet ! Marroitt Beach place is a time share hotel. Grat location ! Has a mall on the first levels. right near Las olas Blvd etc...

Beth, just returned yesterday from Ft. Lauderdale and the way the weather was there for the past four weeks, you may be experiencing SOME summer-like weather by this summer. One day it was warmer in my home town of upstate New York.

Make sure that you wear sandles on the beach, the burns on the bottoms of the feet don't heal very fast.

All kidding aside, the summers are very hot there and the humidity is high. The natives hibernate in the summer like we do in the winter. Have fun~~~~F
Florida is a beautiul state and there is always so much to do. Remember-there is air conditioning.

As far as the Beach Place Towers, I have no input on this, maybe someone else can help.

I have lived in South Florida (Boca Raton) for 14+ years. I cannot comment on the Marriott, but as far as the weather goes, here's what to expect. From about mid-May till around the end of Sept our weather is hot and humid every day. Highs will be in the low to mid 90's, lows in the 70's. It might be slightly cooler on the beach due to the seabreeze. It rains nearly every day usually in the afternoon, however the beach area often gets morning showers. The rain usually doesn't last long....an hour or two. Unfortunately, the rain will not cool it off in the summer, instead it will get steamier! The best times in Florida are Fall and Spring. I prefer Spring because there's more daylight and the snowbirds all go home!

We were there last June-We did not find it too hot, especially if you are by the water or pool. Almost every late afternoon they have rain & thunderstorms though, for a couple of hours. Haven't stayed at Beach Place but have seen it.It is on the strip with alot of restaurants & hotels,a tall building behind an open air mall, which is across the street from the public beach. Check out LagoMar.com if you want more of a tropical resort-their prices are good in the summer for their suites-just stayed there & loved it.

Here's a South Florida native (40 years) attesting to the MISERABLE climate here... yes, from April or so all the way through to mid- October. Even having lived here all my life, I still find being outdoors mid-summer downright oppressive. By the way, South Florida ain't what it used to be, by any means. I am deeply saddened by the changes that have taken place here over the last couple of decades. Much of the natural beauty has been dramatically altered and cleared away to make way for the newcomers moving here in search of their little slice of "paradise". Currently, I've had my fill of skyrocketing crime, drug lords crazies on the roads, RUDE and OBNOXIOUS, self-centered people coming in from foreign countries (and no, I am not a biased individual!). You should think twice about spending your money to vacation here. My family and I are actively searching for greener pastures. Nirvana it's not!!!

So I guess you're a Florida native, huh, Florida girl? Your family didn't go to Florida seeking the same things that today's families are seeking? Or are you just angry that the moment your family arrived, they didn't put up the big sign at the border, saying, "sorry, this was the last person allowed to move here!"?
And it's really good that you clarified that you are not a biased person, otherwise we might have misinterpreted you as one.

I live in Lauderdale and think this is one of the rudest and meanest places in the U.S. People drive horrible, won't let in you in, cut you in line, talk loud on cell phones EVERYWHERE ! This is the only place that you ALWAYS hear cell phones ring when your at Movies !!And it seems that all the ethnic groups hate each other. Cubans hate the Blacks who look down at the Black Caribbeans, who don't like the Jews etc.... its a real jungle in So. Florida.

Husband & I stayed at Marriot Beach Towers about 5 years ago. It is right on beach, very clean & pleasant. Our room was oceanview on a high floor and very boxy and anonymous feeling. Next time i would prefer a lower floor and maybe a corner room. We were only there for 3 days. It seemed well kept with pleasant outdoor areas. Sorry I can't give you more details but it was nothing spectacular as far as resorts go, it's basically a high rise hotel with good service. As far as the heat in Florida, it NEVER bothers me. I love hot weather. You'll be mostly on the beach or in an air-conditioned room anyway.

Yeah Ft. Laud and Florida gurl you too are right. Most people in south florida can't drive worth a sh!tt. Especially, snowbirds and foreigners. I hate the attitude of most people down here. Its so racist.
