Hi. I'm planning a trip out to Monterey and Carmel this summer with our families and need somewhere child-friendly to stay. We'd love neighboring suites, connecting condos,, etc. but are open to anything. We'd love any ideas...thanks!

Check out Andril's Fireplace Cottages in Pacific Grove. We stayed in a really large, clean and comfortable house for a night or two this past Feb. Andril's is close to the ocean and dining. They rent out cottages and a few homes all set in a neighborhood-like setting. The house had a large, private fenced yard, huge living room w/fireplace, dining room, and many bedrooms and bathrooms. It would be a great place for families.

We stayed in a family room at the El Castell Motel in Monterey - two queen beds in the large front room, and another queen bed in a smaller room.

You might also look into Asilomar--it's used for conferences so the grounds are extensive and they are across from the beach. You could rent out an entire cottage for your group and have a large living room to share. The can do a B&B rate that includes a great breakfast. www.visitasilomar.com

Yes, Asilomar is an excellent suggestion. The location is perfect, right at a wild stretch of beach. I believe it is operated by the State of California.

Also, check Los Laureles Lodge and Carmel Garden Court. Both have family size units.

Asilomar is run by the state--but if a conference has not booked the entire site, you can book rooms.

We have stayed at the Carmel Valley Lodge several times with multi-generational family groups. They have a nice pool, breakfast is included, and it is family friendly with different sized accomodations. The weather is bit better than in Carmel and Monterey but you are close enough to easily drive to either of those locations. There's also a park across the street with plenty of room for little runs to run around.

Have a great trip!

We have enjoyed the Carmel Country Inn which offers suites with two bedrooms, living room and kitchen for a very reasonable rate. Right in town. Very clean and very pleasant and most comfortable.

How long will you be staying here? If your stay is long enough, you can rent private residences.

The advice of Carmel Valley Ranch and Andrils is very good. Asilomar is rustic without T.V.s in your room, if that is important to you. They're usually booked with conferences all summer-long. LaPlaya and Fireplace Inns in Carmel have cottages to rent. Carmel Mission Ranch has some nice cottages as does The Green Lantern and Colonial Terrace.
