I am glad to see Asa Aarons is still around; he personally helped me with a problem I was having with buying a new car a number of years back when I was still living in NY. A really nice man.

He makes many good points that should be taken into consideration.

That said, I did a timeshare presentation in October on Oahu at Marriott Ko'Olina which actually was a very no pressure presentation and we were able to walk away after exactly 90 minutes with our checkbook still tucked in our pocket. We got a great deal on the stay and we went in full knowledgeable on how these things worked and with info from HI Dept. of Commerce and Consumer Affairs about our rights.

As with anything...check the fine print, know what you are getting into and use common sense -- IF it seems to good to be true, it probably is to good to be true.

I've never done one since I'm not eligible.

But one thing he says is probably wrong. He suggests that your free accomodations may be cramped and dirty. Doubtful. When the place is trying to sell you a place, they will almost invariably make sure your accomodations are top notch so you will want to buy into it. Why would they put you up in a horrible place if they're trying to talk you into buying one?

Visitors to Orlando: BEWARE of the numerous offers for "free" theme park tickets. The 90-minute presentation will be some of the strongest, high-pressure tactics you will ever see. If you come here for vacation, concentrate on having a good time. You don't need this kind of aggravation!

I've done a Marriott presentation (Shadow Ridge) and can also say that the accomodation was probably one of the better locations (full mountain view on golf course). You do have to pay for these packages ($199 for three nights) but the incentive back was pretty good (two rounds of golf). They let me go immediately when I said I wanted to check out the resale prices, and that the total cost seemed about the same as a hotel room.
