Fontainebleau?

Anyone stayed there recently? We've got a group booking there in January 2007, knowing that it's being renovated, but that we'll be in the tower already renovated and our group in the penthouse for our meeting (3 days). The agreement was that the renovation, being in a different building, would not affect our meeting.

I received a really weird call today from the Convention & Visitors Bureau "just checking" to see if we still plan to go to the Fontainebleau, or if we were planning to cancel because of the "problems". Web search doesn't show anything other than the renovation issue.

Anyone know anything? Thanks in advance....

lovesmurfs, I assume from your post your didn't ask the Convention & Vistors Bureau what the "problems" were. I would contact them and find out what the were referring to. I would assume since they called you there are problems. Best regards.

Call the CVB back and ask to speak to a sales manager PRONTO!!

Ask them why you were called and what the deal is.

I suspect that a competitor hotel called you to try and get you to cancel.

The CVB would never do something like that.

Good point -- hadn't thought of a competitor, only a rogue commissioner who didn't want to go to Florida in the first place....

LoveItaly: I did try to press her for details (of course I asked!), but she backed off and wouldn't say anything negative about the property.

Update: Evidently she was from CVB and her VP of Sales asked her to pull all groups staying at the hotel and "warn" them about the renovation (which, I guess is why she backed off when I pressed her, because I already knew about the renovations).

Seems a little backhanded on CVB's part, and I almost want to call the hotel and let them know what's happening behind their back. The hotel was upfront with me about the renovations when I booked.

Thanks for your help.
