How does the Hotel know this?

I'm sure you've had this happen...pick up the phone now at your hotel, whether calling room service, front desk, housekeeping, and they address you by name. Ok, they have caller ID identifying the guest from the Room #, no big deal here. But this week, while in San Antonio, if my husband called the front desk, they answered the phone BEFORE he spoke a word and said Hello Mr. ___, how can I assist you? When I called, it was Hello Mrs. _____, what can I do for you? How did they know it was Mr. when he called and Mrs. when I called BEFORE either of us spoke a word????

It's the secret cameras in your room!

Obviously, it was just random. Don't worry about it.

You paid extra for this service at this fine hotel. Be glad they didn't address you by your husband's girlfriend's name.

The telephone system is connected to the computer. As you know, computers control the world.

Did the man at the hotel hold an envelope to his forehead when he spoke to you?
Did his name tag say Karnak?

Well, if it were cameras, which we joked about ourselves, at least they could offer us a copy

Meanwhile, in Paris, our hotel did the same thing, but in the morning when my husband would call down to order breakfast, they would tell him what we wanted LOL
They got used to our "usual" breakfast and just started sending it up without our asking.

Scarlett, I agree, that is funny. The hotel that is my home away from home in Italy does that too. Heaven forbid I might want to make a change.

If they told you to put on a shirt before calling next time, I'd be concerned.

Each room in a hotel is only rented to people of a certain name - so, for example, if you were in room 305 and this was the "Smith" room, that is how they know.

That is why hotels are sometimes said to be full when they are actually not - they just don't have a room corresponding to your name. those of us with unusual names are put into "other" rooms and not addressed by name.

At least you get to stay in hotels with telephones. We have to walk out into the parking lot to the pay phone under the blinking motel sign and call Dominos for an extra crispy crust pizza. They rarely get our room number correct, let alone our name.

The underpants gnomes rifled through your belongings while you were sleeping and gave all your pertinant information to the front desk.
