Somebody here posted I was quoted in a Las Vegas book. Don't know what surprised me more - that my babbling was worthy of a quote, or that somebody actually bought a guide book FOR VEGAS, for heavens sake, what's this world is coming to!

ya know, if Fodors was smart about PR -- further promoting their books through word of mouth, encouraging goodwill internally, et--they would have emailed each person to let them know they'd been quoted and in which book, as the books hit the bookshelves!

Yup, and one would think that Fodors would be participating in a NJ/NY GTG, right across the river from NYC? One would think.

Local editors could join us a GTG's all over.

Wait a minute. Have we ever invited them?

jorr, I think your car wash moment was too late to make the 2006 editions. Maybe next year!

Well, darn after Starrsville was nice enough to let me know I was quoted in Fodor's Florida book, I stopped by Books-a-million and they didn't have it. Five shelves of Florida travel books but not that one. They did have Fodors South FL guide and Central FL guide but not the plain old Florida guide.

I am assuming my quote is in the Florida guide since I kind of doubt they published a Florida panhandle guide! LOL! I could see it now, Fodors guide to the Redneck Riviera. It would certainly be a best seller.

I think the quotes are only in the guides that have Fodors 2006 in the title. I found other smaller guides and older guides, but they didn't have the new chapter opener feature with Fodorite comments.

I think Fodors is very smart to include quotes from Fodorite travelers. In the past thirty years I have bought books from another publisher as well as Fodors. The best part of those books were the personal rants and raves from people who have traveled to the country or state in question. I would have not bought those books if they had not had personal opinions included.

I've been quoted on the Bergamo page of the Italy guide. I don't have a copy handy but from memory I think the feature is called "Word of Mouth".

Sunshinesue, I heard they had completely sold out of the 2006 Fodor's Guide to Florida. Supposedly there will be a new shipment soon. Yeah, for real . . . word got out that there was a Sunshinesue quote in it and it sold out almost the minute it hit the shelves!!!!

Jim, Fodor's would have a best seller on their hands if they'd publish your NYC trip report. Anxiously awaiting your fall trip, BTW. ;-)

Well I'll be dog, BayouGirl. That explains that. Word is out that Sunshinesue has spoken. Florida guides are gone and I may never know what profound words I uttered. Do you think I will get a cut of the royalties???

Very interesting. I once saw some thesis or dissertation or something like that in which I and I believe several other people from Fodors were quoted. I believe it was something to do with stereotypes or cultural differences and was written by someone either in Europe or Israel. Can't remember for sure.
