Flying Rochester, NY to Phoenix-Have questions

I am cashing in United points to fly first class from Roc to Phoneix for March 2004. Wanting to get this done early for availability I found out that it is too early for them to offer mileage plus seats on United flights but they can offer me seats on their partner US Air. With all of the travel being done by the poster's on this board my question is this. How does the seats in US Air first class planes compare to United as well as service. I have not flown US Air in quite some time and never first class. I have (knock on wood) had good luck with United in the recent past however. I can book the US Air today or wait until some seats open on United which the reservations agent says should happen as soon as some regular seats sell.
Thanks for your help!!

For domestic flights, first class is a waste of points or dollars IMO <unless> the flight is on a 3 class plane (some cross country flights use these, and a few connecting international flights).

Check the type of plane you'd be on.
If it's a 2 class plane, United and USAirways is a wash. FC is well worth the upgrade on 3 class planes, though.

Thanks travlies, I'll check out the plane, but I'm thinking 2 class.

I fly US Air from both PITT and PHL to Phoenix frequently on business. The connection in PIT always is less hassle than the connection in PHL. The aircraft has always been a 757 with about 7-8 rows of First Class ( 2 and 2 seating) and the remainder of the seats is the main cabin ( only 2 classes). There is a meal service, which is fairly good, and a free movie - saw Chicago 2 weeks ago. Main bonus is that the seats are comfortable.
I can't compare it with United, but I would certainly take the upgrade for this long flight.

Thanks again!
