Flying Emerald Air from Homer to Katmai

I know that this is about a 90 minute flight in a little plane. How bumpy is this flight? I tend to get queasy in turbulence. Would I be better off taking an Alaska Airline plane from Anchorage to King Salmon and then the float plane from King Salmon to Brooks Falls? I really want to bear-see with Emerald Air, but I'm leary of the long flight in a little plane.

Instead of one flight you would have two. Emeral Air uses float plane too. It was a very smooth when we went there.

I've taken several flights in these small planes and the answer to your question is almost completely dependent on the weather. In good weather it could be perfectly smooth, while in bad weather it could be a nightmare.

I have the same problem from time to time. I'd take some Bonine before the flight, even if the weather looks good to be on the safe side. If the weather looks bad, see if you can reschedule for a different day.

There is NO WAY to predict anything re flights in Alaska. If you are prone to motion sickness- TAKE PRECAUTIONS. Head to your MD for their recommendations. You are asking a question that can't be answered. I have taken over 25 flights in Alaska- they run the gamit.

Just plan on the turbulence and take the precautions, especially if you are going to be flying for 90 minutes in a small plane. I have had my kids and a girlfriend of mine all get sick on small airplanes when there wasn't any turbulence that I could feel. If you have an issue with medicating then the Alaska Air flight into King Salmon would be a much easier route since they fly the big planes. The route between King Salmon and Brooks is really short, I think 15-20 minutes.
