Florida vacation over new year

Would love to go to Florida beach area over new year 2013 with adult married children and maybe grand kids . Any ideas? Prefer 4-5 star resorts.

It can be cool in Florida over New Years but that doesn't necessarily have to stop you.

Check out:

South Seas Island Resort on Captiva (www.southseas.com)

Ritz Carlton on Amelia Island (www.ritzcarlton.com/en/Properties/AmeliaIsland)

Turnberry Resort, Aventura, Florida (www.turnberryislemiami.com)

Little Palm Island, Florida Keys (www.littlepalmisland.com)

New Years can be cold in Florida--as long as you are prepared for that---it never snows there so New Years in Florida works for me. We spent New Years in Sanibel one year and lucked out. We were cold there 2 years ago when we visited in Feb.. This past winter was warm all over Florida.

I have always heard that in Dec. and Jan. you should stay south of Naples to have warmer weather. The Naples Ritz Carlton on the beach is lovely but we have only eaten there.

The Keys are always an option. Cheeca Lodge and Little Palm Island are 5 star resorts.

Thanks so much for your ideas! I use Fodors all the time to check out properties, but never have joined the forum. The cool weather may deter us to wait until March.....which was my first idea. I will definitely check out your suggestions.

Your chances of warm weather for New Year's, and in March as well, will be much greater on the Gulf side. I suggest you consider the Ritz in Sarasota and the one in Naples; as LindainOhio says, no guarantees, but north of there, and the East Coast, will be cooler. Happy planning!

The further north of Ft Myers the chancier the temperatures.

I hated the South Sea Islands Resort on Captiva because it was one of those places that charged you every time you took a deep breath. No amenity came without a charge. Maybe they have changed.
