florida rain

How has the weather been for beachgoers in so. florida (west and east coast)? Has anyone come back recently that can tell me if the rain has been continuous? I know weather.com and cnn weather has been saying rain for the past 3 weeks and forecast it everyday this week too. Are there no periods of sunshine? Thanks for any first-hand replies.

Well, the standard summer forecast is for rain every day, at least in June and July. But it has been tough the last few weeks. Last week was sunny here, but it rained every day in the next county. Basically ya pays yer money and takes yer chances...

Down here is SOoth Fla is has been very rainy, more than usual. The period of rain/storms also seems longer. We have had more grey days than I have ever seen.

It hasn't been continuous, in fact more sun than rain, but there sure has been a lot of the wet stuff the past few weeks! We live in the Tampa Bay area, but spent last week in Naples and it was no better there. There were 11+ inches of rain this June whereas the average June has 6+.

What is more annoying is that there is little predictability. Usually it's either afternoon showers or morning showers during the summer. Recently it's any old time of day and on occasion, brief showers both morning and afternoon with sun in between. We tried to get out sailing Saturday, got chased back into the marina twice, then finally gave up and came back home, being treated on the way to the sight of a magnificent (from a distance) water spout. The weathermen predict with no better than 50% accuracy which any of us could probably do!

We keep thinking it'll rain itself out soon, but it sure is persistent.

We're planning on going to Sarasota area next week, and while it usually rains at least once or twice, it's usually in either the morning or afternoon and then clears up. I'm not looking forward to having rain all week long

Hey O, the waterspout story reminds me of the book "Scavenger Reef" by Shames. He was sucked up in a waterspout..

I live in Boca Raton and work in Ft Lauderdale. I was away for 9 days on a business trip and flew back on the evening of June 7th. It was raining when we got home and it has rained virtually every day since then! We broke a record in June for the most rain ever(over 21 inches). I just heard this morning on the radio that we've already surpassed the normal rainfall totals for July. I've lived in Florida (Central and South) for close to 21 years. I don't recall ever having such a rainy summer. Like others have said, it's normal to cloud up in the afternoon and pour for an hour or so, but then it clears up. This year we've had MANY days with no sunshine or very little. It's supposed to be better by this weekend. I sure hope so because I feel like I'm drowning....it's so depressing.

rain, rain, and more rain. I'm in central fla and it rains everyday, although not ALL day long. We had a great sunny day July 3rd, then sun again today. It's very unpredictable. It can rain in the morning, or afternoon, or everning, or both, or all.....

My grass is happy, but it's getting depressing!
