Tell me now - am I crazy?

I just figured bringing them will be a trade off to being without them but worrying about them.

Anyway, if we do go somewhere - anyone have ideas? maybe rent a house, see if my parents would come to help?

A one year old will not care if you're in Paris or at the neighbor's house. Go where you want.

Make your decision based on where you want to go PLUS - ease of getting there, accomodations that have some sort of refrig/microwave capacity in room, room configuration - suite or separate area for them to sleep.

Don't count on child care centers at location being available for kids that little unless you check it out - many only take older kids.

No - you are not crazy - it will be a different vacation than BC (before children), but you can still have fun. While certainly not a Caribbean expert, most places in Florida seem more kid-friendly than most places in Caribbean - and have advantage of being cheaper and easier to get to.

I just returned today with my 15 mo. old from Club Med Sandpiper. They have an extensive program for kids and especially for babies. Our daughter was in Baby Club Med all day yesterday and had a terrific time. They even have night babysitting. Sandpiper is a casual, family-focused vacation. We would return.

Okay, I've done both Florida and Mexico with toddlers, one at a time. My choice is to travel domestic with small children. At that age someone always gets sick with some kind of snotty disease and I have had to find medical care while traveling.

I'm much happier having access to an ER, than I am talking to an in house "nurse" on an island somewhere.

Rent a condo on the beach. Or a cottage. Bring an teenage cousin, or other relative that you can bribe with some R & R.

I also agree about Florida vs Carribean because of the medical issue. We just returned from our first trip with our two toddlers, 3yrs. and 20 mos and had a blast. They will not care where you go, just to be with you is fun. The best advice I have is to remember and respect their schedules and try and accomodate them as much as possible. Our kids did very well on a very long trip to Hawaii. Planning, planning, planning. I aslo agree about bringing them with you vs. worrying. It was worth the extra work and expense to have them with us instead of missing them and wondering if they were ok. I think it was a good experience for them to broaden their horizions and learn to behave in a variety of situations, which they did. Best of luck to you!
