Florida Keys - Marathon

Is Marathon a good location to put our bags down for the week and travel daily to the other islands ?
Any suggestions for a nice hotel there ??

Even though I grew up spending vacations in Marathon, it has changed soooooooooo very much --- as have all of the keys.

Now, I much prefer Islamorada. It is a much nicer atmosphere, than what has happened to Marathon --- in my opinion.

You might want to think about two locations for a week in the Keys.

We like to stay in Key West for a portion then back up to Islamorada for a more laid back atmosphere.

Not a hotel, but we stayed at CocoPlum, which is in Marathon. Would not hesitate to go back. Nice and quiet as its off the main road.

To answer your question, yes Marathon is a good location to 'park' in and visit the other keys. It isn't the destination that Key Largo, Islamorada or Key West is, but if you are just planning on sleeping there and doing day trips it would be centrally located.
