My husband and I are going to the Keys the end of June. First trip in 9 years without kids!!! Flying into Fort Lauderdale (from St. Louis) and then driving to the Keys. Staying at Vahalla Point Beach Resort for 2 nights. Want to snorkle at Looe Key. Problem comes in at Key West. We can only stay for 2 nights as we have to get back to the kiddies staying with grandma. Because it's a holiday weekend (July 4 weekend), the inns/B&Bs are requiring a 3-day stay. Now our options turn to hotels/motels.
We'd like a quiet, nice place in or near Old Town so we can walk everywhere. Trying to spend no more than $150-$180 a night. Saw good reviews for The Almond Tree Inn. Anyone stayed there before? Any other hotel/motel recommendations? An earlier post mentioned El Patio Motel. Comments? Also any suggestions for local places (can be dives) with great food would be appreciated!

You better move fast, because July 4th is the end of the tourist season and all hotels, motels and B&B take advantage of that weekend. If the new trend is 3 nights minimum, i doubt you will find something for 2 nights in old town.

I agree that you'll have a difficult - if not impossible time - finding a place to stay in Old Town for two nights on a holiday weekend, especially for good prices.

I might add that the tourist season never ends in Key West. The summer is low season, a few fall and spring months are shoulder seasons, and winter is high season.

Dear Sandy - yes my husband and I stayed here based on a reccomendation from someone he worked with. I was really pleased - The motel itself was small but the rooms were a really nice size - new and very clean and modern. It was convenient to all and in the mornings they serve coffee by the pool for free. The pool area is not big but we had a great time and would return.
Hope you enjoy !!! Be sure to go to the Bar at the Hilton at the Pier it was lively and great views !!

Almond Tree Inn is a great value. Conveniently located, newly decorated rooms, heated pool. We go to Key West every year and have spent part of our trip here for the past 3 years.

My 40th is the end of June....maybe we will join you. We stayed at the Southernmost Point Motel and thought it was nice (it was a couple of years ago though). A little bit of a walk to Mallory Square but it was a quiet area. We really liked Sloppy Joe's. We ate there and also went back one night to hang out and dance. There was an episode of $40 a day on the Food Network and she went to Blue Heaven - it looked so good and reasonable, too.

Almond Tree Inn quoted me $174 a night for two nights. It was actually cheaper to stay at the
Angelina House ($109--King) and pay for the third night we're not actually going to use! That's where we wanted to be anyway.

Glad that's settled!!!
