Price range? Are you thinking all in one unit or several? How long? Many places rent only by the week. Panhandle or southwest Florida or in between?

We would like to rent house with 4 bedrooms and would like to keep it to one week at around $1600. We're not familiar with Florida, but would like it to be ward enough for kids to play in the water.

I like the Indian Rocks and Indian Shores area of the Gulf Coast. You can rent a condo via www.vrbo.com and will be close to the action of both Clearwater to the north and St. Pete to the south but without ridiculously crowded beaches.

You can drive in either direction for restaurants and there are several trolleys that you can also take to get to Clearwater or to St. Pete. My teens utilized the trolleys quite a bit during the week.

This is definitely a middle class type vacation rather than a high class South Beach or Naples type vacation. There are some really great restaurants in the area though for adults. I love La Cachette de la Plage!

Just a couple of things to remember. Spring break rental times will be more costly than other weeks and will fill up quickly. I always book mine a year in advance to be sure to get what I want.

The closer you are to the beach the more you will pay. Condos are more likely to have a pool while only some houses will have a pool.

But rental condos with 4 bedrooms are almost unheard of!

Yep, I agree Neo. Two 2 bedroom condos might be the way to go but more than the $1600 budget for sure.

My niece and nephew and their "extended" families rented a 5 bedroom house in Marco Island last year for an "ashes scattering" and a college graduation --14 people in all, some kids. They paid $2000 for it, but it was in May. I just found it on VRBO:

But it is now more and for your dates it is $4000. I found some others on VRBO, but your budget is more like summer -- double for season.

Here's a four bedroom in Marco for $2494.

Note: beware that in Florida there is a 10% tax, depending on county or city, and is often not included in the base price.
