Thanks, Dukey. It looks like an interesting place for a walk too. I might be able to recognize the building from the pic on the website or at least get a good idea of the neighbourhood. We know Los Olas and Riverwalk (which I understand is now getting revitalized) and some of the side streets off Los Olas but that's about all. I love the feeling of Ft. Lauderdale!

At the point where the Riverwalk meets Las Olas (near the Riverside Hotel and the Cheesecake Factory) another condo, a big one, is going up in the vacant lot that sat there forever.

The area along the Riverwalk which is called Las Olas Riverfront and has been basically vacant for several years may end up being converted to apartment residences and perhaps something is finally going to be done about the space.

We once owned a condo at the other end (in The Symphony) which we used for winters and we liked being there. The city, overall, has a lot to offer if one knows where to look.

You mentioned Sunny Isles. I'm afraid I remember the days when there were, basically, mostly low-rise buildings there and as you know that has changed considerably.

Hi Dukey -- there were many things we liked about Sunny Isles but we couldn't get over the fact that whenever we walked somewhere (there was plenty to walk to), it felt like we were walking alongside a busy interstate freeway.

Over the years we've been coming to Florida, we've seen the Los Olas Riverfront go from fairly thriving to last year when there was almost nothing left there. We still enjoy the cruise that leaves from there but a lot is changing along the waterfront. We used to go to a lovely restaurant at Riverfront. I can't remember the name right now. Maybe River House? It was a big white house with lots of twinkle lights. Very pretty. Last we heard, it was closed except for private parties.

It's true what you say, fishee, about Sunny Isles but at least there are things to walk to.

We were in Fort Lauderdale this past June.
Walking along the River Walk was a bit depressing as we remembered when it was vibrant and thriving. It's such a nice area. I hope someone is able to bring it back to life.

If it's going to be all condos and hotels, I hope they have ground floor shops, terraces and outdoor cafes.

Yes, the River House and it is definitely closed. It is a part of the so-called "old" Fort Lauderdale area with some "original" structures.

That's sad. It was a regular for us. Take the last cruise of the day while the sun is setting and then have dinner at River House. Oh well.
