Just a quick update on this since we were at Nobuo's yesterday for lunch and also stopped by Pizzeria Bianco's just to ask about wait times ...
I mentioned 'small plates for two people' at Nobuo but what we got yesterday for lunch was single plates. My wife had "Ebi Salad" for $9, which was four grilled shrimp on brochettes with a big salad of "rice noodles, purple basil, mint, cucumber, soy glazed peanuts, nuoc cham". When we had this same item for dinner last spring they gave a bit more salad and you shared the shrimp.
I had "Panko-Fried Soft Shell Crab Sandwich", which came with a small salad of "Homemade focaccia, cucumber, kanzuri aioli" for $10. We were both pretty full after these single items. As you'd expect from a James Beard award-winning chef both were very tasty.
At Pizzeria Bianco's across the square they were about 2/3's full at 1:15 PM (Wednesday in August, pretty slow time in Arizona). They told us that people coming in weekdays between 2-3:30 PM or so usually had zero wait time before they could start cooking your order, which was good news.
In past years they only opened at 5 PM and would have a long line waiting to get in before the doors opened, so since everything is hand-made you would find people willing to wait up to 2-3 hours to get one of their award-winning pizzas, especially after they won several national awards for "Best Pizza". But looks like opening at 11 AM and staying open thru the afternoon has fixed this issue.
Anyway, just thought I'd clarify my earlier comments on Nobuo and also update on the wait at PB. Could change later in the fall when the weather cools down.
