Flights Between Sonoma County & LA Start in March!

For those of you wanting to visit the Wine Country and also spend some time in LA, these flights may help you plan your itinerary. Horizon Air will start flights in March. Right now the airfares are quite low--check it out. Business travelers to LA could simple add a long weekend to a business trip and hop up to Sonoma County to enjoy all we have to offer!

If you are an Alaska Air milage plan member, you can register to get double miles for your first flight on this route. I think you have to register before you buy your ticket, so you get a promotion code.

Have they said if this will be on jet or turboprop equipment yet?

Turboprop. Horizon uses the Dash 8 Q200 and Q400, the most comfortable turboprops out there.

The schedule says "DH4". What aircraft is that?

Bombardier Dash-8 Q400. A large turboprop that climbs almost as fast as a regional jet, but quieter because it has noise-cancellation (same principal as NC headphones) for the cabin.

It's still has the "DH" label as the Dash-8 was developed by De Havilland Canada before taken over by Bombardier.

Funny name, as the De Havilland planes had model numbers DHC-1, DHC-2, etc. Somehow, from the -7 onwards, they drop the "DHC" part and just become "Dash 7". Same with the Dash 8.

To bad they're not using the Fokker F-28's that Horizon used to run between Seattle and Spokane. I wonder what happened to those? It was a nice little jet.

F28? That's pretty ancient - meaning they use a lot of fuel and can't satisfy new noise and emission requirements.

rkkwan-we used to fly a turbo prop in very rough weather between Aspen and Denver-years ago on Rocky Mtn (Scare)Airways- I was told they are much safer than a jet in blizzard conditions-
true ?

This had been in our news for quite awhile, 2d and all I can say is Viva la Air Service (once again) to Sonoma County !!!
Gosh, we just might have the beginnings
of something akin to infrastructure here among the vines, LOL!

Both turboprop and turbofan (i.e. jet) planes are just as safe.

But turboprop has generally lower approach speed, so they land slower (just a bit) and requires less runway.

Maybe that's what they mean...

The airport is off Hwy 101 between Santa Rosa and Healdsburg. It is very easy to get to Healdsburg from the airport so long weekends in the Russian River Valley or Dry Creek Valley are quite doable.
