Flamingo or Barbary Coast in Las Vegas???

DH and I are planning a trip to Las Vegas Dec 26-30. Our best rates are to book the hotel and air together through Travelocity. The prices are virtually the same for Barbary Coast vs. Flamingo. We have read previous posts on these hotels, but just can't decide. We are in our late 40's, not big gamblers or partiers. It is first trip for DH -- I have been to LV 3-4 times, but never stayed at either of these hotels.

i've stayed at the flamingo and liked my room very much. however, some people i know had rooms that had not been renovated and were very worn down. i've heard good reviews on the barbary coast. the difference in the summer is that the flamingo has a nice pool area but that won't be an issue in december. they are basically the same location. have you checked tripadvisor.com

I've stayed at the Flamingo. It was decent. Nothing fancy and the casino area was more "old school". Try to get a room with a strip view as it looks out over Ceasars.

Haven't stayed at the Barbary coast but from walking through I would opt for the Flamingo.

Given those 2 choices, I would definately go for the Flamingo...not even close.

In Dec. the pool isn't going to be a factor. I've stayed Flamingo, not Barbary- Flamingo is bigger and has more grounds/ garden/ pool area and yes, flamingos.

I've stayed about 8 different places on the Strip in LV over a 15 year period. Flamingo was my very worst stay. I've never stayed at Barbary, but IMHO it looked run downed the last I saw of it in '04. That restaurant mentioned is good there though.

When I stayed Flamingo, the check-in was horrible, I heard that you can do it differently now- express.
If you could, I would take the Flamingo.

I'd pay more to stay nearly anywhere else myself. I hate mid-strip right there, you can barely walk on the sidewalk and the service people look stunned. I don't like Times Square either.

I would suggest to keep looking at other hotel choices. Barbary Coast is small and whenever I've walked by it smells of cigerette smoke. I cannot say what the rooms are like but I would not choose to stay there despite it's center strip location.

The Flamingo rooms have been renovated and the location is fantastic, but I think it also smells like stale cigerette smoke. Even if you do not gamble you will have to walk through the casino to go anyplace. The newer hotels do have better ventilation systems. We have stayed at the Flamingo but not in the last 5 years or so. We normally stay at the Mirage or Treasure Island, altho I also like Paris.

Yes, I have read the reviews on tripadvisor.
A pool is not an issue as we will be there in December, plus we live in Florida and have our own pool. (don't mean to sound like I am bragging.)
Thanks for the comments thus far.

We stayed at the Flamingo and thought it was just fine. Nice room, pretty large, but not a renovated one but still looked good.

We walked by/thru Barbary Coast. I say no comparision - Flamingo. Also, you can check into the Flamingo at the airport, possibly saving you at least an hour waiting to do so at the hotel.

I've stayed at Flamingo twice and had great rooms each time. I'm staying there again in a couple of weeks. Much to my surprise, I was able to get a lower rate than the internet rate of $80 simply by calling them and asking. So they lowered it to $70.

Flamingo is a very good affordable choice in Vegas. I stayed there last year and my room was large and clean. The rooms aren't fancy, but it is a good choice in Las Vegas.
