Stardust Las Vegas

Going to stay at the Stardust for three days next week. Haven't been there in 29 years. What can I expect to see and do?
Thanks Jim

We stayed there about 3 years ago. Room was tired & shabby. Location is pretty far up the strip. When you say you haven't been there in 29 years, do you mean at the Stardust, or LV? Because there are some really great hotels that offer a lot more. The restaurants were not good, you'll have to go out for every meal. The hotel just looks shabby in general.

You can definately expect to see the same cocktail waitresses and dealers from your last visit! You want to relive Vegas from the swinging era of Dean, Frank and Sammy, this is the spot as there's a lot of first hand knowledge.

The casino looks a bit worn out, especially next to the modern places further down the Strip.

We stayed there in late March,2003. One night in a regular room and one night in a suite ($99.00).
Both rooms were in excellent condition. I thought the suite was nicer than the Venitian.
Customer service was very good, the desk clerks made special efforts to put all of our group together. My brother-in-law recieved a free upgrade.
The casino was uncrowded and comparable to any strip casino. I enjoyed the pool area as well.
There is an all you can eat sushi dinner for $29.00. I was impressed with the selection, hamachi. uni and mirugai.
It is a long walk from the newer casinos.
And of course the have Mr. Las Vegas, The midnight Idol....Mr. WAAAAAYNE NEEEWTON!!!

While I SERIOUSLY doubt the rooms or suites at Stradust are anywhere near as nice as Venetian's, even if they were, that wouldn't diminish the fact that the hotel itself and its casino is a dump and in a bad location.
There is so much competition for low to mid-budget visitors to LV these days that you can almost always find a room at a newer and nicer hotel for same or slightly more in a prime part of the strip. Places like the Stardust and Riviera will be bulldozed for new hotels if the trend toward development to the north end of the strip continues (Steve Wynn's Le Reve will be the determining factor).

We can end this discussion right now..we just got a postcard in the mail from them. They offered us a room including two buffets a day for $39!

We have stayed twice at The Venitian and I love the rooms, esp. the bathrooms. The Venetian suites have nicer furnishings.
The suites at The Stardust ( I visited two on different floors) were larger and longer with two sets of windows overlooking the strip.
The bathroom was larger than the ones at the Venitian but not as well decorated. The Stardust tub had whirlpool jets the Venetian did not.
I SERIOUSLY doubt that you have set foot in either casino recently. I have.
The best advice on this board probably comes from those who have been to a property recently.
The Stardust is a good place to stay.

For "logandog": I've been to LV easily 45 times over the past 20 years. I've stayed at most every major hotel on the strip, or been in the rooms.
I will say I've never set foot in a Stardust room, nor will I ever.
Why? Because it's one of the 3 smelliest, dirtiest casino-hotels on the strip. I have been to Stardust every year over the past 10 years because one of the people I go with likes to stop into the sports book there since it is more progressive than most others. He goes in, places bets, then we leave.
I have stayed at Venetian twice in the past 6 months. It's not my 1st or 2nd choice in LV, but for convention purposes, that's where I had to stay.
I stand by my previous comment, though.
Even if the rooms at Stardust WERE better than Venetian's, the place is still a smelly dump in the most run down part of the strip.

The Stardust, a perfectly acceptable hotel, is one and a half blocks away from the Venetian.

That's a rather funny way of looking at distances in Las Vegas, joesource.
Saying something is close by, 1.5 blocks on the strip, is like saying Australia and New Zealand are right next to each other on the globe (1000 miles apart).
It is 0.9 miles from Venetian to Stardust (1.5 blocks) according to mapblast.
Walking 16 football fields end to end is still a hike.

My point was...how run down can the neighborhood be if it is just a block and a half from the Venetian and Treasure Island?

I have walked it several times, and it is not a mile. Maybe half a mile.

Since I live here I guess I can give my .02. Yes, it is one of the most tired, run down casinos on the strip. It is a far walking distance to the new, upscale casinos. Closer to the Venetian but quite a treck if you want to see the Bellagio and the Paris. If you really searched I bet one could fine another casino for the same price on the nicer end of the strip. Priceline often turns up with Treasure Island, the Mirage, or the Aladdin. Of course the Stardust does have Wayne but I think anyone who stays there may feel disappointed, do lots of searching and I'm pretty sure you will end up at a much nicer hotel in LV. Have fun everyone and welcome = )

On a positive note, if you don't want to be around screaming kids this place wont't have that. The pool is so-so and hardly ever crowded. The sports book area is one of the most popular and if you are a cheap skate its right next to McDonalds. I have stayed there 3 timse but only because the trip was free. There are much better places for the same price.

The distance as the crow flies is 1.15 miles from Venetian to Stardust, walking is about 1.5 miles. The neighborhood is a dump, the hotel is a dump. Comparing it to Venetian is simply ridiculous.

If "joesource" writes back maybe he can explain his perspective by comparing Stardust with other hotels he's stayed at in LV.
One thing that can't be disputed, the Stardust and Venetian aren't "close" in any way. The Venetian is the last nice hotel on the strip going north. When Le Reve opens (in early '05?) that will change.

It's not the location that's bad, it's the hotel. Very shabby & run down.

But if you decide to stay there (and also for the person who compares it favorably with the Venetian), why not call and ask for that $39 promotion? I'm sure that NO ONE ELSE is offering that (tells you something, right?).

My one stay at the Stardust will be of no help to anyone trying to stay there as it was 11 years ago. But we had the best time there.

It was our one and only trip to LV. We were young and poor. As a Christmas present for my dh I got two rountrips from Boston on America West for $200 total. Friends booked us into the Stardust for $33 night for 3 nights. When we checked in the Stardust gave us coupons for their show and for breakfast. The show was supposedly $60 a ticket. It was the tackiest thing I have ever seen in my life - trained orangatans, ice skaters, topless dancers bad comics, but I am so glad we went because it was definately "old Vegas".

The room at the Stardust was in a motel style building out the back of the casino. Carpeting halfway up the wall, built in furniture, decorated in orange, red and yellow. It was a hoot. Clean as could be too (or it would not have been funny). When we checked out the room was billed out at $22 per night not $33 as we thought. $266 for airfare, 3 nights, breakfast each day and a show. You can't beat that. To this day we talk about that vacation as one of the best ever.

I love the Stardust, just stayed there in December. It is an easy hotel for parking, convienent proximity to other hotels, easy on/off the freeway, and there is virtually NO KIDS. That in itself is reason to stay there.
