First time to NY, itenerary

We'll arrive at LaGuardia by noon, Friday, not sure when we'll leave on Monday. We're staying in Times Square (Marriott Marquis). We'll go to a Broadway show Saturday night. So what would be better done Friday afternoon/evening, rather than the weekend? We want to look at the shops on fifth avenue, visit Central Park, go to the top of the Empire State Building (maybe after dinner so we'll get a view of the city at nite?). Or would this be a better day to go down to see the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, Greenwich Village? I appreciate your suggestions.

Here's one suggested itinerary (sp) that
is logcally grouped by areas of the city:

Friday afternoon:
Walk around Times Square.
Walk up 5th ave to Central Park.
Explore some of Central Park.

Friday evening:
Dinner on 9th Avenue (better food AND less $$ than Times Square).
Walk down to Empire State Building.
Go on up and take in night time view.

Saturday: This is a FULL day

After breakfast, subway or taxi to Battery Park.
Take the free Staten Island rerry and admire Statue of Liberty from the deck (trying to go TO the statue wlll eat up half a day or more). Just stay on for a round trip ride.
Walk through the parts of downtown you're interested in then walk on up to Greenwich Village.
Lunch in Greenwich Village, Soho, or nearby.
Subway or taxi to Brooklyn and walk back over bridge.
Explore some of South Street Seaport if time permits.
Dinner downtown or midtown - whatever.
Broadway show.
Too late for drinks??

This leaves all day Sunday and some of Monday for your other interests. There is SO much to do. Consider lokng at Fodor's miniguide here:

Yes, that's very helpful! Been reading the forum and getting a better idea of what to expect. We want to see the Statue but not spend hours there. Thanks for the link to the miniguide, I'll check it out. I'm so excited!

You have some great ideas here but I can make a few more suggestions.

The Met Museum, for Sunday with a drink up on top of the Museum to see the view of the city.

The Staten Island Ferry is a GREAT idea, but take it over at dusk and come back just after dark for an amazing view of the Statue and the lights coming up in the city.

Dinner at Fraunces TAvern, just a few blocks from the ferry.

Lunch or dinner in Chinatown. For Lunch the best (MHO) is Mandarin Court on Mott St or dinner for Peking Duck is what else The Peking Duck House also on Mott St.

From there walk up to Canal St and over a block or so to Little Italy and have a little something at one of the outdoor cafes there.

IF you are a bit more adventureous, take the A train up to 190 St to Ft Tryon Park on Sat or Sun and walk through the park to the Cloisters which is part of the Met Museum and houses one of the best collections in the world. Also the views from there of the river are breathtaking.

Have a great time while you are here.

That's a great idea about the ferry at dusk, may save that for Sunday night, then, since we're going to a show on Saturday night. Appreciate the restaurant suggestions, too. Makes me hungry thinking about it!
