First time in Oahu
I'm going in September 4 days/ 5 nights. I booked the hotel Ohana Royal Islander. I've got a rental car planned. Now what do I do? Any ideas? Good places to eat, sightseeing etc... Any help thanks.

The luau at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel is wonderful as is the entire grounds and beach right in front of the hotel itself. The Mai Tai bar has some of the best views of the beach. I would recommend a morning drive to North Shore to watch surfers. Also, just enjoy the nightlife of Waikiki and walking through the International MarketPlace in the evenings. People watching doesn't get any better. Have fun!

Since you have spent $600-1000 on airfare and hotel, car....spend $20 and get a good guide book and plan according to yours likes....there's tons of things to do on Oahu....everyone has a different idea....of course you are going to get some good ideas here, and that will get your wheels turning.

I'll tell you my latest favorites.
You HAVE to eat the breakfast buffet at Duke's in the Outrigger on the Beach if not just for the view. Take a drive from Waikiki around the West shore then around back up to town through the Pali. Stopping at all the great beaches and sites on the map. I've mentioned before that Bellows is a great place to spend a weekend day. If you have time kayak Kailua beach or learn to kitesurf. Kailua has great, cheap food - Gee a Deli, Maui Tacos, Teddy's Burgers, Down to Earth - vegan deli, Zia's.
Don't miss snorkeling in Haunauma. On the way back swing past Kahala Mall and grab Greek food to go from....hum... something like Olives...it's right next to McD's. Or there are several eating places along the mall with Mexican or local style foods. Then have a picnic either at the beach below the Diamond Head lookout or behind the fancy homes in Kahala.
Swim at the Lagoons in Ko'olina then go to the Paradise Cove Luau. At one time the I'olani had burgers by the pool with a pond of baby sharks. Last time I went they were gone. (They do have great bathrooms for washing up after a swim ; ) ) Haggle the vendors at the International Marketplace and tip the street performers.
Another day drive over the Likelike and go all around the north shore. You may want to snorkel at shark's cove. You can have lunch with a view at Turtle Bay Hilton or opt for a quaint spot in Haleiwa- Pizza Bob's or wait in line at the sandwich shop. Don't forget shaved ice with azuki beans at Matsumotos. And if you like health food stores, this one has a friendly cat. Drive through the pineapple fields. Stop by Sam's club for cheap souvenirs. Have dinner with bellydancers at Pyramids. Don't forget the dessert in the real fruit dishes. Do more shopping. Grab a drink and grilled veggies with poppy seed dip at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider.
