Fine Dininig in NYC

Dear All,

I am looking for somewhere to have a fine dining experience in NYC, I have tried to book Per Se but am now wait listed. I had read that it was a great experience. I would like to dine either 15 Dec or first few days in January but i understand many of these restaurants close for the few days after New years.

Any suggestions for a restaurant is greatly appreciated, type of dining is very open. Price up to $250ish excluding alcohol is fine per person.

Thanks

BigT

You might have a look on opentable.com for the dates you want to see what's available. I understand Per Se can now be booked thru them. If you want French, Daniel or Joel Robuchon (at the Four Seasons hotel).

Asiate in the Mandarin Oriental is very good. Eleven Madison Park is a current foodie favorite.

I had a fantastic meal last month at Jean Georges. The service was warm and impeccable. The room has just been remodeled, and the chandalier is fantastic.

Jean-Georges for lunch is also apparently one of the best lunch deals in town.

I am not a fan of 11 Madison Park. I find the room cold, and the food trying too hard to be exciting and mostly failing. I also found the service to be lacking. however, there are some ardent fans of the restaurant who think it is the best.

Hi BigT,

I am sitting on two reservations at Per Se right now - Dec. 28th (5:30 p.m.) and Dec. 29th (9:30 p.m.). I am going to cancel one - probably the Dec. 28th. I know you didn't mention that date in particular, but if you are interested in it, I could let you know when I cancel, and you could call and see about it? Let me know!

To be honest, the options are pretty endless, though Per Se would be at the top of my list. I have eaten at French Laundry and it changed my life.

While the Michelin list isn't exactly complete (particularly the strange omission of Union Square Cafe) it is a good place to start:

You should also check out http://gayot.com/.

Zagat requires a subscription, but is probably the most widely used guide in New York.

I was terribly underwhelmed with the prix fixe lunch at Jean Georges, but have not eaten in the main dining room which I hear is very good.

Hi Becca, thanks so much for the offer but i am unfortunately not in NYC on those dates otherwise i would have happily taken one of those times!

I will keep my fingers crossed that Per Se get a cancellation on 15th and perhaps book or at least try to book one of the other options. I have read some good things about Jean Georges and will check out French Laundry

Thanks,

BigT
