Was just there for dinner last week on my annual NYC trip and I loved it as always. I like to sit out in the front room however for a more casual fine dining experience.
I also had lunch at Eleven Madison (also part of the Danny Meyer restaurant group) which was absolutely wonderful and a great value at only $28 for 2 courses.

Thanks for the info. I'll try to snag a reservation. Last time I got up before 6:00am to catch the first wave of reservtions in NYC at 9:00 and that was the last time, we had to cancel because of a blizzard and we didn't want to venture far from the hotel.....Hopefully this time will be better - although we are going again in December!

Shar, I had my 40th bday there in May. The restaurant is beautiful, the food is beautiful but I was underwhelmed, especially for the price. The casual and lively atmosphere of the front room suits me better and next time I would try for that, main room was too sedate.
I had a list a mile long of places to try in my 8 days there and didn't make it to half. Most sad about not getting to one of the momofukus. My favorite meal of the trip was at Lupa. Co was another highlight as was the Pearl Oyster Bar, WD-40 was just eh.
There are so many amazing restaurants in NYC, have fun wherever you end up and enjoy!

Add one more to the list of underwhelmed on 2 visits, to nyc. Last time at Gramercy was 2 years ago...so not up to date, but I enjoyed people watching in the front room more than the food experience...Perhaps I expeced too much.

sallyho, I think your visit coincided with a down period that Gramercy Tavern was going through - the current chef has been there almost 2 years and he has revitalized the menu. That being said, some people prefer Gotham Bar and Grill - but they are bothe very fine restaurants. The front room at the tavern is very lovely and lively during the winter holidays, lots of terrific special cocktails and warm drinks.
