Fear of flying classes?

Does anyone know where to find classes to overcome a fear of flying? My father in law is wanting to take a class and we can't seem to find anyone who knows where to look. He doesn't want to take an on-line class. He's tried that and it didn't work. He wants something that will eventually lead to taking a flight. I tried calling my local airport and they had no ideas.

His fear is not something that can be subdued by drugs. He and my mother in law were supposed to leave for a cruise this past week and he couldn't get on the plane. And that was with a prescription from his doc. Luckily, they had cancellation insurance! Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Check with your airport. I know that Delta Airlines offers fear of flying classes at Logan Airport.

My husband is a clinical psychologist who has dealt with people with different types of phobias. He suggests first calling some of the individual airlines, as they sometimes have special "fear of flying" programs. If nothing is available, check with your local (county or state) Mental Health Association. They should be able to recommend a therapist or group that specializes in this type of phobia.

Northwest Airlines had one in the past but I don't know if it's still around. It might be worth checking with them.

I had a friend who took the course with Northwest Airlines a few years ago and she was helped a lot. Don't know if they still have it but worth a call.
