Favorites at the Gristmill (Gruene, TX) and Boudro's (San Antonio, TX)
I'll soon have an opportunity to visit two favorite restaurants but I'm always wanting to try new things.

At Boudro's, we like to get their tableside guacamole. They bring a little cart with limes, avocados, etc. to the table and make it fresh right there. Pair it with a prickly pear margarita, and it's good stuff. I like the fresh trout at the Grist Mill; they have really good homemade wine coolers too.

Well, girlfriend trips are wonderful. Have fun!!
I can never go to the Gristmill without ordering their famous onion rings. Talk about mouth watering!
Don't forget to walk across the street to the 5 and dime (or whatever it's called). Lots of good Texas fixins, plus Blue Bell ice cream cones if you're still hungry.
(Sure would be fun to have another GTG down there, wouldn't it. Didn't I hear BeachGirl might be coming back? :-? )

I leave this Friday for a long weekend with 3 other girlfriends for a GIRLS GET-AWAY weekend. Two of us lived in San Antonio, but a very long time ago, and the other 2 have not been there before. We're staying at Homewood Suites on the Riverwalk.
What restaurants can you recommend and what night spots? We're not young chicks - in our early 50's.
Some of the restuarants I recall as good possibilities were Budros, Paesanos, the Flour Mill place for brunch (name??), La Margarita in the Square, and one restaurant on the NW side of town - La Fogata. Can someone give some updates on these places and other good suggestions?
PS. Off topic, but anyone else having difficultly getting used to the new Fodors Forum format here? I find it more difficult to easily search and find the answers I am looking for.

jmbklj--we enjoy going to the El Mercado. There is a restaurant there that stays open 24 hours (or at least it did when we were last there three years ago) and it was very good. Take a taxi and enjoy the marketplace.

cjml - I think you are describing Mi Tierra's for 24 hour service.
They have a large case of pastries that will tempt you upon entrance. We always have to get some to take home. I like having breakfast there.
