Favorite Upper West Side Restaurant

I am going to see a show at the Beacon Theater in August and I'm looking for a restaurant nearby to go to for an early dinner before the show. Any suggestions? Anyone been to Savann?

Walk one short block to Amsterdam. Go to 80th Street - there are 12 restaurants between 80th and 81st Streets offering a variety of cuisines.

One of my favorite NYC restaurants is ISABELLA'S on Columbus at 77th (behind the museum). It's in the same family as Blue Water Grill, Ruby Foo's, etc. Great food & service, and close to the Beacon.

OUEST on B'way at about 81st, I think (check the address) is fantastic. I ate at Savann about four years ago and it was very good, but Ouest is much better.

I second the vote for ouest--My husband and I live in the neighborhood and dine out frequently. Savann is fine but Ouest is in another level---Isabellas is good for people watching but the food is really mediocre!!!Ouest is on broadway and 84th st. You might want to consider ruby foos--fun pan asian and close by on 77th and broadway

Isabella's mediocre?? Wendy, I must disagree. Plus it's owned by B.R. Guest Restaurants, the same as your suggestion Ruby Foo's. I also like Ruby Foo's (uptown only); Isabella's is just as good if not better, and the atmosphere is great. I haven't tried Ouest yet, but it's on my shortlist (right below Danny Meyer's new Blue Smoke).

I wouldn't go to Savann. It used to be wonderful when it first opened, but the ownership and kitchen have changed hands and it's not anything special anymore. How much are you looking to spend? Ouest is VERY expensive, and to me not worth the money. I'd suggest Calle Ocho, Ruby Foo's, or Cafe Frida, all within a few blocks of the Beacon.
