Family vacation ideas wanted

This month, we went on our "big" trip for the year (ok...the decade). We went to WDW and on a Disney Cruise. We had a blast.

The next trip, though, needs to be on a much smaller scale. I don't know where to start.

Any suggestions for fun family-oriented (kids are 11 & 7) locations that we could drive to from NE Texas?
We loved staying at the Disney resorts. We spent most of our time at the parks, of course, but I'd love to find a great resort somewhere.

Thanks for any help!

Drive down to the Hyatt Hill Country. Go to Sea World. Go to Natural Bridge Caverns. Just stay in air conditioning, a pool, a lazy river, or a cave as much as possible.

Also, remember that Southwest flies to more places these days. You can get to St. Louis pretty inexpensively.

Santa Fe? (on Southwest)

We rented a house in Port Aransas last July for a family reunion and everybody had a great time.

Lots of people like the Hot Springs, Arkansas area. The trouble with Texas and Louisiana, as you well know, is the incredible heat.
