Family suite in New York

Will be in NYC for 4 days in two weeks. Usually stay at Places like the Plaza, Essex house, Palace while on business. Bringing family of four and choices are suites at the Affina Dumont, Benjamin, San Carlos, W Times square and Intercontinental Berkley as well as the Surrey
hotel. Prices similar with the Surrey being about $100 cheaper per night. Any thoughts?

We have stayed at both the Affinia Dumont and Benjamin with our two children- we often decide between the two based on any specials they may have. You won't be disappointed with either one.

Someone here suggested the Blakely for suites and it looks lovely. I think it all depends on the area where you want to stay. I'm not a fan of staying in Times square. The blakely looks like a good location not far from the park. We stayed at the benjamin and it was nice-- close to saks .

We loved the Blakely two years ago for our family of four. Great location and wonderful attention given by their staff. Also near several wonderful neighborhood restaurants that the children enjoyed.

We couldn't get reservations there for our next visit in August so we're trying the Surrey, based on a recommendation from a dear friend who spends lots of time in NYC.

The Affinia Dumont, the Surrey and the Benjamin are all owned/run by the Affinia.com group (all suite hotels) and well regarded. The Surrey is on the upper east side near the Metropolitan museum in a quiet, more residential area. It's scheduled to be closed in August for renovation so the decor will be tired (erego the price break).

The Benjamin and the San Carlos are near each other and also near the Waldorf. The San Carlos is nice and includes breakfast. The Intercontinental (not a suite hotel) is also in that same general area (midtown east) and a nice older hotel. The W Times Square is the only glitzy one on the list. I assume you know what being in Times Square is like. If the family includes teens, they might like it there the best. I doubt the hotel has suites at the same kind of rates as the other hotels so you'll likely just get a large room.

Our family likes the affinia dumont. Lots of space for a nyc hotel with a full kitchen. Excellent workout facilities. If you go there ask for a room up high with a view of the chrysler building. Very nice
