Try Lago Mar, or for a nicer hotel Marriott Beach Towers. These 2 are the nicest.

I don't know if it qualifies as a resort, but the EmbassySuites on the causeway worked well. Family accomadations, nice pool, very near food store and short drive from beach.Plenty of restaurants around.

Definetly Lago Mar or Marriott Harbor Beach are the best resorts-you can look up their web sites. Lago Mar offers nice 1 or 2 bedroom suites at a good price. Both have nice pool areas overlooking the beach.

The nicest place in Ft. Lauderdale is the Mariott Harbor Beach, by far. It has nice pool area and beach and upscale lobby area.
A few miles south in Hollywood arwa is the new Diplomat Resort on the ocean. This place is five star.

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is just a few minutes north of the city of Ft. Lauderdale and has a wonderful small town ambience. Most rental units are only two stories and the neighborhood is very quaint.

El Mar, not A1A is oceanside in this town. However, the town is so small that any place you book is walking distance to the beach.
