family itinerary help,please

Would love feedback. Family of 4,16yr old girl, 14yr old boy, late august trip. Driving from Phila. Thinking 1 night in Portland, 1 in Camden (Lord Camden Inn), 3 in Bar Harbor (Bar Harbor Grand)and then 1 in Old Orchard Beach on way home.
Since we won't hit Portland till very late afternoon/early evening and are planning on spending next day in Freeport would we be better off sleeping in Freeport, then doing 1 night in Portland on way home. This would mean missing Old Orch.rides, etc. Thanks

I would stick with your plans. Portland and Freeport are very close to each other and Portland has stuff going on at night. I would suggest looking into the Portland SeaDogs schedule. They are the AA team of the World Champion Boston Red Sox. The games are a lot of fun with typical minor league silliness going on between innings. Very inexpensive tickets ($4-6). You might even catch fireworks after the game.

If baseball is not your family's thing, maybe you could arrange for a harbor tour. Portland Harbor is very scenic with several lighthouses, harbor islands etc.

The rides at Old Orchard can be missed. That is not what I hope people come to Maine for.
