Fairmont Kea Lani: Partial vs Ocean View Room

Hi gang!

This is our honeymoon and first time in Hawaii. We have decided on the Fairmont Kea Lani. What we haven't decided is the room type. We have decided against the garden/mountain view rooms only because we hear they look out onto the parking area sometimes. So, it is either a partial ocean view or ocean view for us. On the Fairmont website, "partial ocean view" is a view of the ocean seen from you lanai. An "ocean view" is defined as a view of the ocean from inside your room.

We would love to see a bit of water, but not sure if it is worth the price difference between a partial ocean view (595) and ocean view (665). For $645 we could get the partial ocean view and breakfast buffet package included for our stay there. Breakfast with the "ocean view" is $705.

Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the views?

PS -- Our last two nights we plan to stay at Hotel Hana in one of their Sea Cottages -- an ocean view there.
thanks!

We stated at Kea Lani several years ago an booked a POV. I joined the Fairmont's President's Club (FF program) and received a coupon for an automatic upgrade upon checkin (of course, if there is availability). So, to save $$, I'd book the POV and join the Club and hope to be able to use the coupon. Good luck and congratulations. You will really love the Kea Lani.

Just a note: I stayed at the Grand Wailea in a "parking lot view" room and it wasn't bad. Wailea is pretty quiet. I can't imagine it would be much worse at the Kea Lani. Just in case you decide to save a few bucks...

I was in a Mountain View room at the Kea Lani and it was okay, we could still see the ocean from the Lanai. Be aware that the hotel is kind of up on a hill so it isn't like you are going to be directly over the beach anywhere.

Be SURE to mention you are on your honeymoon when you check in. And sign up for the President's Club program in advance!!

When checking in, definitely mention that you are on your honeymoon and ask if they can upgrade the room. Usually they will accomodate you. Partial ocean view at the Kea Lani is nice if you end up with that - the entire resort is awesome so you can't go wrong!

We stayed at Kea Lani several years ago in one of the rooms overlooking the parking lot. It wasn't as bad as it sounds. There were flowered trellises covering the lot and if we faced the right direction we could see the ocean.

Personally, I would take the partial ocean view. As long as you can see the water when you are out on the lanai I think that would be ideal. The previous comment about the hotel suites not being right on the water was correct. The hotel is set back quite a bit as the bungalows (or whatever they call them) have the prime location. Have a great time - we loved Maui & Kea Lani!!
