I stayed at the Best Western on the 17th and would have to agree with Mike's comments, except I wouldn't call the bed all that comfortable. I booked it through Expedia and got a "run-of-the-house" room without a view, but after spending all day in the park among the view, it wasn't necessary to see it from my hotel window. I did notice a new Comfort Inn opened practically next door, that looked (surprisingly!) charming. I didn't go inside, but I would look into that if I were you.
As far as Cafe Diablo goes, I'd have to say that in a town the size of Torrey, I would never expect much and have to give it an "A" for effort. The presentations were great and it was fun to watch the food being served. Unfortunately, it didn't taste nearly as good as it looked. My husband had the Pumpkin-seed trout, and I had the pecan chicken, and both were pretty bland. It wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't great. We had lunch earlier at the Capitol Reef Inn which was pretty standard. The dinner menu looked nice, but I think more expensive than Cafe Diablo.

Sorry, but I can't find any info on it at all. It's not even on choice hotel's own web site. There was a sign hanging up saying "Now open", so it might have just opened last week. It didn't look like your ordinary hotel. It was small with an adobe look to it overlooking the mountains. I guess if you're interested, you'll have to call the choice hotels 800 number.

wanderluster,
Sorry (again) for the late response. No, the room I got didn't have a view. I figured as bd did that spending almost all of the daylight hours in the park, I didn't need a view from the room. For what it's worth, my thinking is that while the location of the hotel would allow for an okay view, there is no spectacular view. You might want to consider the size of the room a more important criterion.

Just have to mention our experience at Cafe Diablo in late Sept. My husband and I had a fantastic meal from beginning to end. The margaritas were kinda small but very good. They brought a complimentary plate of delicious grilled veggies, cheese and bread. We had to have an appetizer - cornflower pillows filled w/cojito cheese & sweet potato on bed of black bean sauce. Come on - they were too good. Entrees were fire roasted pork medallions and the pork ribs. We thoroughly enjoyed both. They came with plenty of very fresh veggies and other goodies - all beautifully presented. We even had dessert because our wonderful server was the dessert chef too. A keylime/berry tart and a pear/almond thing w/homemade vanilla bean ice cream. And the best coffee of the entire trip. Everyone seated nearby our table loved their meals. Cafe Diablo has outstanding service and very friendly staff, excellent and fresh food for a reasonable price and a nice casual southwestern atmosphere. Quite a find in a town as small as Torrey in the middle of the desert wilderness. A wonderful experience.
