Here's a couple of nice bars (with good foods to match) that we've gone to, lately:

Stanton Social - This is not your ordinary bar in the Lower East Side. Great cocktatils, Kobe beef burgers, Peking Duck and Lettuce wraps.

Inoteca - Another small-plate/sharing bar Italian-style in the Lower East Side. Long wait for a table.

Bar at the Modern - The black and very modern furniture, the hip bar and the very good tapas-size Alsatian-inspired dishes by Gerald Kleuther all combines for a different bar experience.

You are right about Exchange Place in JC. It is so different from about 10 years ago. Lots of stores (Target and Home Depot) and more large banks have set up additional corporate offices. There is a Light Rail system that goes around and, I believe, into Hoboken.

However, the better foods/restaurants are in Hoboken. Grimaldi's has a branch there, too, at 2nd Street.

We could have used the light rail back then. We had a bomb scare after the Oklaholma bomb and all left without our handbags coats etc from the building as we were rushed outside onto....the pier. Not the safest place to be if a bomb goes off we would have been toast into the river. I had to hoof it back to Hoboken by foot..dodgy back then!

Does the river cafe have a bar to go into for a drink or is it just for people eating at the restaurant as we often do this in Dublin in nicer places. I was invited as a guest to a dinner here before I left in the private room to the left that was like a dock. It was filled with flowers and Peonys. We had dinner and watched the sunset with a lively bunch. It was one of those moments you never forget and we thinking about how people dremed about seeing NY and the view we had that night and we were lucky.

Thanks for the Little Italy link Mclaurie. I wont be in NY at the time of the singing competition!

bill_boy - is the bar at the modern...MOMA?? where is the location. Also do you have more of an address for the Stanton social? Cheers!

I am really looking forward to a fun trip. We are going to ny State North Jersey, The shore (Springlake, point pleasant) and then manhattan for a few days with lots of shopping and eating in between. Woodbury commons is beckoning me

Anyone in North Jersey have restaurants reccommendations? Bergen Country area is where we are staying. I will go to an old favourite of ours in Ridgewood (Marras). I hear its gone all foodie there!

Yes the modern is MOMA.
Another good place for a drink is the Campbell Apartments at Grand Central. The same people also run the Carnegie Club on west 58th st.

I think you should start a new thread on dining in north Jersey.
