essex connecticut

Have been thinking of a short trip to Essex and was wondering if anyone has been there for a vacation. Any advice and/or recommendations will be appreciated.

Essex is a nice small town with a couple of interesting things to see (the small Connecticut River Museum, for example) but not exactly a major vacation destination. The only inn I know of in Essex is the Griswold. What are you interested in? What made you choose Essex?

We have stayed in Essex twice. We were there just last May and always stay at the Gris. Stay in a room not located in the main building, It gets noisy.

I also recommend The Copper Beech Inn in Ivoryton.

I am looking for a place to visit that is new to me, that is beautiful to look at and walk around in for a short respite. I am in South Jersey and saw some pics. and thought it looked and sounded nice.
Other suggestions are welcome.

It's a lovely area. There's a scenic railroad ride that's fun. Plus, you're close enough to drive to Mystic, which is certainly worth at least a day of your time.

Essex is that. You will be a block or so from the water, there are some nice shops and you will be in short driving distance to some other nice places. If you are a woman travelling alone, Essex is safe!
