Escourted tours

Hi i am trying to plan a holiday on the east coast of the USA. I was wondering if anyone knows of a good escourted tour around the east coast including New York for no more than 14 days. I would appreciate any suggestions or ideas given.

You don't say how old you are, but if you are over 50, Elderhostel offers a lot of tours of the USA east coast. I just got a brochure from them last night filled with east coast tours. You can access them at
www.elderhostel.com

Have you thought of renting a car?
The best way to see the United States is by car. Granted, you probably don't want to drive in NY, but there are taxis and tour busses for that area.
For the rest, I would highly recommend renting your own vehicle.

You don't mention your price range but for 4-5* quality hotels you can try Tauck and for a 3-4* experience you can try www.trafalgartours. www.trafalgartours4less.com offers 14% off Trafalgar Tours. Have used both these companies a few times for myself and my parents. My parents did the South with Trafalgar and had a great time. Hope this helps.

Cosmos is a budget tour, but it will more likely have young people for your child to spend some time with.

Thanks for the help so far. We would prefer 4-5 star hotels and aren't too concerned about the budget.

In that case Tauck has family getaways. Also the same travel agent, trafalgartours4less.com discounts Tauck, I think 8% off the land tour price.

If budget is not a major concern, I would also highly recommend Tauck, having just taken my fourth tour with the company -- three in Europe and one in Canada.
Tauck is superior to many other tour companies because it uses better, more centrally located hotels. It also tries to throw in some out of the ordinary accomodations, like castles in Europe. I'm not sure what would be used on the east coast.
Also, the meals that are included in the tour are going to be better than with many other groups. Some nights everyone will eat together, but numerous nights, you will break up into small parties and eat on your own in the hotel in which you are staying. Because these are good hotels, they have good restaurants, and you can order anything on the menu -- not be force-fed rubber chicken (which is probably what Cosmos would do).
When lunch is provided, Tauck tries to find interesting venues as well.

Tauck doesn't tack on extras either. While the price is high, it is a good value.

Thankyou for that. Tauk sounds like the company of our liking i will most certainly look into it. I am still open to any other responses and experiences.
