Escape From Alcatraz
If anyone is going to be in San Francisco this weekend, the good news, and maybe the bad news is Sunday is the Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon. 1.5 mile swim from Alcatraz (there are sharks in that water!), an 18 mile hilly bike ride and an 8 mile hilly run. There is a huge fitness festival at the Marina Green on Sat. and Sun. and beware there will be lots of road closures on Sunday. Particularly around the Presidio and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

Grasshopper-
DH and I were in SF one year(spring) when they hold that crazy annual 5K (or 10K?) where the runners dress in costume and some don't dress at all. We're were trying to get from Union Square to the Pacific Hwy., avoiding the race, and the inexperienced concierge sent us right into the middle heart of the marathon. What an experience (and eye popper)that was! Some body part simply weren't made for nude jogging!

Jayne, You are talking about the world famous "Bay to Breakers". My best friend has run that 23 years in a row (fully clothed!). It's a little over 7 miles and has the notorious Hayes St. Hill. So many people run (this year 80,000) that when the winner crosses the finish line, some people are still crossing the start.
