Embassy Square Suites or Doubletree

Has anyone stayed at either the DoubleTree-Park Terrace at 1515 Rhode Island or the Embassy Square Suites at 2000 N St NW?

Right now we are booked for 2 nights at the Doubletree with a suite for 3 people for $189 but I am considering calling the Embassy Square Suites because apparently they have 2 bedroom suites instead of just 1 bedroom suites. We are looking for 2 nights for 3 people in early October-any opinions?

Also, is one of these places located in a better nieghborhood than the other-we will probably do a fair amount of walking-some metro and some cabs...

thanks!

I am familiar with both locations. I used to work near the Doubletree and will be starting a new job near there soon. I find both areas to be fine and safe. However, the Doubletree is located in an area which is primarily office buildings and very dead in the evenings. The Embassy Suites is closer to Dupont Circle where there is more to do - shops, restaurants. You will probably get more bang for your buck there. Both hotels are within walking distance to the metro. I would advise that you stay away from cabs during your visit, unless you are going to Georgetown where there is no metro stop. There is just no need for them. The metro system is so convenient. If you have any questions about DC, please feel free to email me.

My reply is general and does not really apply to the specific mentioned locations.

All things being equal, Embassy Suites is a much better property. Many of the DoubleTree properties have become somewhat run down. On the other hand, the Embassy Suites are always good.

Just want to verify we are talking about the Embassy Squares Suites-sidewalk.com says it is not to be confused with the Embassy Suites chain it is the one at 2000 N St NW.

The new Frommers says that the Doubletree was just redone and a really hidden gem right now-but I was concerned that maybe there is nothing to do in the neighborhood. Maybe I will call the Embassy Square Suites to at least check it out.

Also, Ilisa-I would love some restaurant suggestions for a saturday night-I am thinking i ricchi(sp?)-friends have told me it is really nice-and I am assuming I better make reservations early... WOuld love some feedbacka dn other less pricey suggestions for lunchtime...

thanks!

The Doubletree was recently redone, and it is a very nice hotel. However, in the evening, it is just a dull location. I still think you would be better off with the Embassy Square Suites. Regarding restaurants, I Ricchi is excellent. Wherever you go, you should plan on making reservations on a Saturday. I Ricchi's number is (202) 835-0459. We also enjoy Pesce, a seafood restaurant (ok, I'm a little biased - a friend is a chef there!). It is not far from the Embassy Square Suites at 2016 P Street, NW. Phone # is (202) 466-3474. Another favorite is Otello at 1329 Connecticut Avenue; (202) 429-0209. I'm not sure about lunch since I rarely sit down to lunch downtown. When we have guests in town, we like to take them to Old Ebbitt Grill on 15th Street across from the Treasury Building. It's considered a Washington institution, with pretty good food. I hope this helps.

Thanks-I will call the Embassy Square suites and thanks for all the restaurant suggestions-I will call for reservations for dinner-even here in "podunk" Seattle it's getting hard to walk in a place without reservations anymore-ever since coffee took off

thanks again for the suggestions to everyone-we are really looking forward to our trip!

just a quick follow-up for others who may need hotel space for 3-5 people in DC. I just called Embassy Square Suites and unfortunately they are sold out for when we want to come-but as a comparison-they charge $229 for a 2 bedroom/2 bath suite.

The Doubletree Park Terrace is $195 for a one bedroom suite. So my suspicion is that the Embassy Square is probably a prety good deal if you have 4-5 people which the larger suites accomodate.

By the way they are part of a property called Summerfield Suites.

Anyway, thought others looking for hotels in DC might want to know about this
